Characters!

Tue Nov 04, 2014 10:02 pm

Bolton have loaned 2 of our players who can't get into our squad, yet they smash our primadonnas 3-0! Time for the likes of Turner and Connolly to return to bring some much needed character to the team!

We could have done with Don Cowie tonight, a massive mistake by Ole letting go a player who will run himself into the ground covering every blade of grass from the first second to the last on those cold Tuesday winter nights on poor pitches in poor conditions. Opposing players get tired and jaded with the winter fixture congestions but Don Cowie would always keep going and that's the difference between winning a scrappy game 1-0 and losing a scrappy game 1-0.

Everyone was moaning at Ralls replacing Pilkington saying Ravel or Mats would have been better replacements, yet I didn't see a single person mention Burgstaller as a possible replacement tonight. Slade has a lot of dead wood to clear out.

We are playing good stuff at home and winning games, but away games requires a team of character of a cold, Tuesday night to go to places like Blackpool, Millwall and Bolton, stand up and battle, run, fight and die for the cause to grind out a result. That's what the Championship is all about and that's why we will continually lose points on the road to teams of inferior ability, but who are more organised and want it more.

Deadly serious Paul. Cowie had his limitations but you could always rely on him to run himself into the ground, he's not a creater but he rarely gives the ball away. We are currently lacking players with Cowie's fitness and attitude. I don't think we would have lost successive away games at Blackpool, Millwall and Bolton if we still had Hudson organising us either. Ole has got rid of the wrong players, Ole has got rid of the players with the mental toughness required to succeed at this level and replaced them with bottlers with a "soft under belly" (Slade's words from last night).

They probably would have lost by a lot more if Cowie wasn't playing.

Cowie would have made a difference last night. We had no energy in midfield last night. I can imagine Cowie making himself a nuisance there instead of giving their midfield all the time in the world.

Spot on, it's the less glamorous side of the game like closing players down, tracking runners and picking up the loose balls which goes unnoticed.

Cowie was offered a contract by ole?

We need the team set up properly. Slade us stupidly stubborn not using the players he has.

They don't have to be hard/tough men, they don't have be scared of anyone. Its not like football is boxing or rugby league/union its nearly a non contact sport these days...........just do what they are paid very well to do......run for 90 mins and pass/tackle/head the ball, with some of the so called skill we seem to have in our squad........we don't ask much.
