Bolton Wanderers chairman in Thailand for takeover talks

Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside is in Thailand having discussions about a possible takeover of the Championship side, reports BBC Radio Manchester.

Thai entertainment company BEC-Tero and Siam Sport Syndicate have previously been linked with a joint bid.

Businessman Eddie Davies currently owns Wanderers through parent company Burnden Leisure PLC, who last December announced they were £163.8m in debt.

Bolton ended an 11-year stay in the top flight after their relegation in 2012.

' Lennon unconcerned by takeover talks '

"I don't know about selling the club, but I know Phil Gartside is in Thailand to discuss a proposition from some Thai businessmen," Bolton manager Neil Lennon said.

"I've no idea what the ins and outs of it are, I'll know more when Phil comes back."
Gartside has previously played down the significance of the amount of debt because more than £150m of the £163.8m figure is owed to Davies.

Former Celtic manager Lennon, 43, only took over at Bolton last month after Dougie Freedman was sacked.
"Is the takeover a concern? Not really. But it is strange that this has happened so soon in my tenure if you want to put it that way," added Lennon.
"I'll sit down with Phil and discuss what the situation is.
"But if it is the best thing going forward for the club then so be it."

There's still hope for us yet then   if someone is willing to enter in to negotiation to buy a club the size of Bolton, who have limited potential, then we have some confidence that there are potential buyers who would be interested in Cardiff even with our large debt.

This is why I question the liquidation threat we had.

There was a tax bill of £3 million to pay against a club knocking on the premiership door. Yes we went to court and it was pretty close but I ask another question, would it have got that far if Tan was NOT in the background. For me at the time there was too much interest in the club to let it go down.

With Tan being in the background that would have scared off potential investors. Tan is just too big a component to take on. I believe that is why that car dealer walked away. Why Tan let it go to court well I now have my feelings on that. Looking at the way he has gone for Malky, the way he has shown disrespect for the fans plus other tacts he has shown lately I would say he wanted to make us feel desperate and put this shits up the then present board members who worried more about their own interests than anyone else.

This is why I believe the board members and certain staff used certain supporters to start the scaremongering. Tan wanted us to bow down to him at the start by starting with the board and working down to the fans.

Boltons increasing debt has hit all aspects of the club.

4 years ago us photographers used to get treated to a meal before kick off. (Not quite as good as at the CC Stadium though!)

Last season this was dropped to just sandwiches in the media room.

Tonight we will be lucky to get a voucher to buy a pie!
