Cardiff are in the High Court to sue agent Paul Atkin
The club claims he offered information about ex-boss Malky Mackay
But the information is alleged to have been of questionable accuracy
Cardiff City have started High Court proceedings to reclaim more than £50,000 they paid to football agent Paul Atkin for information he provided about discredited former manager Malky Mackay.
It’s claimed Atkin, of Pro Star Management, made an approach to Cardiff under the pseudonym Jack Anonymous offering to help the club defend Mackay’s £7million employment claim with ‘two significant pieces of information’ regarding his alleged ‘serious misconduct’.
Mackay later settled with the club before Sportsmail revealed the series of racist, homophobic and sexist texts he had exchanged with director of football Iain Moody. Neither has yet found another job in football.
Cardiff paid Atkin, via his solicitor, £51,500 for the information he had been touting. But on receiving it, they found it ran to less than one typed page and was either of questionable accuracy or relevance.
The first item was that Norwich majority shareholder Delia Smith had allegedly approached Mackay about managing the Canaries and the second was that Atkin’s own agency had a scouting agreement with Mackay through his agent Raymond Sparkes, who also works for Pro Star Management.
The Welsh club, whose owner Vincent Tan has spent £750,000 investigating eight transfers during Mackay’s tenure, are seeking the return of their money plus legal costs.

ThomasC, if someone had besmirched you in the way Malky did to Tan, would you not go all out to clear your own side of things if all around you wrongly thought you were the the instigating party when someone else (in this case a very media manipulative Malky) was actually the aggressor?![]()
I know I would!![]()
It appears to me that the Agent has tried to exploit a situation in a way only an Agent can...with money on his mind!
I bet he (the Agent) will be smarting right now regardless of the Court outcome, as no matter what the outcome the professional football community will know he cannot be trusted!
I reckon Tan would reckon that as "job done!" more than the actual financial element itself!![]()

This would suggest to me that FIFA (or the FA) are looking very closely at what agents they allow into football and that the old days of qualifying by sitting an exam is no longer acceptable.
Personally I think this is a good move by FIFA. A little bit of regulation and clarity doesnt hurt anyone.

This seems to be something very different.
However, if true it may be the opening shot by the club against agents they regard as dishonest, with more to follow?

Exactly and I said all along that the fraudulent claims by the club were bollox and would never stand up in court. Looks to me that the club have now been told that the information is rubbish and are once again trying to blame someone else.

This is the first of a few claims though.
This claim goes to show how far Tan is willing to go to bring down Malky. Tan has the money to do it. I'm not sure Tan will get his money back but he will be content in the fact this agent will not be trusted again. That is Tans tact. I wonder if he will use the same tact on other people.

This will be Cardiff City's debt not Tans.
What a waste of money to try to cover up what a complete mess Tan has made of managing the club.
What kind of **** pays £50,000 to get some gossip on someone?
It is Tan who looks the imbecile in all this.
All the fraud and corruption claims thrown at Malky are unravelling, and Tan is now desperate to blame someone else, so he goes after the agents who realised what a mug he is and fleeced him (allegedly) of money for rumours. ha ha.
Good businessman ? What a joke, he is just a bully and gets away with it in the places he come from. But in a Western, modern world he has to back up the claims and he is getting increasingly desperate to try to regain some credibility.
Soon he will have to pull those trousers up even higher, to cover his face, it will be so embarrassingly bright red (to match the disgusting shirt).![]()

The club debt at record levels, it's great to know 'Jack Anonymous' can get a £50,000 pay-out for the promise of more dirt on Malky

You should be celebrating the fact that our owner seems to be the only one within the game has the balls to expose the grimy little underbelly of football agents and others involved in the game, instead of making cheap jibes about the club wasting money. The cost of this case is irrelevant, if it gets rid on one unscrupulous agent, then it's money well spent

While I do agree it puts Tan in a bad light.
I think most people would pay 50k if they thought it meant they wouldnt have to pay 7m out.
