Just watching the Manchester Derby, and am a bit confused, what was wrong when chris Smalling got his first yellow?

He deliberately put foot up to impede golie! Auto yellow card, only allowed to stand still in front of him.

Ok, thanks, I just thought that you couldnt touch the ball if it was in the keepers both hands, thought that was just a block

because there is suppose to be time limit on goalies possesion you are not allowed to stop him playing the ball in any way, if you have your back to him and ball hits you thats different matter, it started when george best took ball off gordon banks as he flipped ball up to kick it in a match many years ago best knocked ball away as it was in air and scored i believe? as long as ball doesnt touch ground while in goalies possesion its deemed in his hands, chelsea last season scored because marshall bounced ball as it hit the ground it was deemed in play when chelsea player took ball away! basically its same reason goalies get so much protection when in penalty area you cannot impede them from getting ball

What's the difference between that and what Eto'o did against us?

I think what Smalling did today is deemed as obstruction, but with Marshall last year it shouldn't have stood because you can't take the ball off of the keeper while he's got two hands on it, in the act of bouncing it, or if it's between his hand and the ground. Pretty sure that's what it says in the rule book and someone posted it last year at the time? May be wrong though

They claim Marshall dropped ball as to play it on ground as he normally does, they says this because eto was behind Marshall and he would have done his normal thing as he did not see eto .

I thought the first yellow was a bit harsh,he let a city player off a similar challenge seconds later, the refs need to be consistent. No problem with the second yellow.

Not sure if my memory is on the ball here but I think Marshall was holding the ball and not looking to throw it or kick at the moment of time it was knocked out of his hands like he weren't just about to do either of them.

I watched the Newcastle Liverpool game and Balotelli stood infront of Krul and he kicked it at balotelli. He didn't move an inch and it hit him and play carried on. Difference is Smalling stuck a foot out
