These 2 have improved hugely under RS. Look like a central midfield pairing and very rarely more than 10 yards away from each other when defending.
Gunnarson has been superb, which was evident when he went off against millwall, his ball retention looks to have improved.
Whitts - Cardiff legend, rarely gives the ball away and has a wand of a left foot. Playing 10 yards further forward and making things happen for us.
Great partnership, going to be hard for dikgachoi and adeyemi to remove 1 of them

They are playing brilliant the pair of them, they are outnumbered in midfield, and opposition are sent out to foul and stop them by any means, yet they are still setting up all our attacks and defending well, and they look really comfortable

agreed, Adeyemi, will have his chances through injuries and amount of games to play, but would not change that pairing as first choice

For the 3 vs 2 in the middle the two wingers need to be productive.
Any surprise that we were even better when Ralls came on as a left midfielder and not winger. He tucked in a little and gave us a passing and "tackling" lift. If you have Fabio you just need a sensible left midfielder to cover when fabs goes upfield.

Away from home I'd go 5 across midfield personally.

A great pairing that now know their roles and look comfortable. Slade has gone old school and simplified things and pairings and systems, what he will need to do is rotate like for like so for example if witts is out or needs a rest you need a creative player with Gunnar and vice versa!

according to the guy on the league show last night once he gets a settled squad he will look to tweak things going into games, I'm intrigued as to whether we'll see this soon, we needed it at Millwall, the problem with a set tactic is any decent manager will be able to counter it easily.

Agree the pair are looking good under RS
Still don't understand why whitingham gets so much stick where I sit people are waiting for him to do something wrong to have a pop.

does anyone know how many games Gunnar started under Malky in our promotion season?
I seem to remember him coming off the bench a lot.

Started 35 of the 46 games.
Only Marshall, Taylor and Whitts started more games.

I was gutted walking into the forest game and seeing a new manager selecting the pair of them but at the moment he has got something more out of them than the previous managers. Both have been greatly improved especially gunnarsson who as always worked hard but is making far less errors. Whitts looks like he's playing with a lot more confidence than for quite a while so all good at present just hope it's sustainable.

Gunnar is a legend

Great to see whitts get some good reviews on here. Makes a nice change. Until the day I die i will never understand why so many ppl like to criticise him at every turn. Don't get me wrong if he isn't performing i have no problem him getting some stick but it's like certain ppl are waiting for their chance to stick the boot in with him.
I have said it on here before but I'll say it again. Legend is a word that's used way too often in football but Whitts is a true blue Cardiff legend. I live in Ireland so only get to a home game a season but my greatest sporting moment was seeing my favourite Cardiff player of all time whitts score in the premier league for us right in front of where I was sitting. There was a tear in my eye.
