Cardiff City: Federico Macheda feared for future under boss Slade

Friday 31st Oct 2014.

Cardiff City striker Federico Macheda says he feared for his Bluebirds career after former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left the club.
The Italian, signed by Solskjaer in May, has scored twice in his last three games under new boss Russell Slade.
But the 23-year-old says he was unsure about his future at the club when Solskjaer stepped down in September after a poor run of form.
"I feared that it wasn't going to be good for me," said Macheda.
"When I was fit I was starting to play a little bit more and then he got sacked.
"But the new manager came and he put me on the pitch.

"He's a very honest guy. I find him a very good person for the team and a very good manager as well."
Macheda talking to Sport Wales TV programme

"[The fans] haven't seen the best of me yet. I hope to score as many goals as I can for the team."
Macheda joined Cardiff on a free transfer after being released by Manchester United, where he had previously been coached by Solskjaer in the reserve team.

The former Lazio youth player missed the start of the season with a back injury and did not make his league debut until the end of August, against Fulham.

Solskjaer left the Bluebirds three weeks later, with the club 17th in the Championship after three losses in seven games.
But Macheda has thrived under former Leyton Orient boss Slade, scoring goals against Nottingham Forest and Ipswich.
"When a new manager comes into a new club you've got to work hard to impress him from the first day. I'm happy he's been impressed with me," he said.

"[The fans] haven't seen the best of me yet. I hope to score as many goals as I can for the team."

The Bluebirds are up to 11th in the Championship after two wins in Slade's first three games in charge, and Macheda says he has noticed an improvement: "The team is looking more compact and we know what we're doing."

The Bluebirds host Leeds United on Saturday and Macheda believes a few wins can propel Cardiff towards the top of the table.

"This league is very tight and if we win three or four games in a row we'll be up there," he said.
"I came to Cardiff because I believed we could go up straight away."

I really do feel for this guy, has always had the potential, just has not applied himself. I really hope Slade can get the best out of him because I think he could be very useful for us throughout the season!!

Anyone remember Earl Barrett of Oldham when they were in the premier and getting to semi finals of any of the cup competitions?

Well he was a footballer who seem to give the impression he had all the time in the world when the ball was at his feet. I get that impression with Federico. His goal against Forest seemed slow motion to me and he look like he could have walked the ball into the net.

Ole sacking I did fear for him and his article above confirmed my fears. Well Slade is giving everyone a clean sheet by the sounds of it but has got the knife out. It looks like Macheda is not going to be scalped.

Well I reckon Macheda is useless but I think he will play tomorrow and unfortunately prove me right. Like Ralls he is nowhere near good enough.

If Macheda put some effort in, put his body on the line for us and didn't chicken out of challenging Danny Shittu, I would have a lot more respect for him. Shittu would never have scored that goal if Kenwyne Jones was marking him instead of Macheda. Macheda is one of several Ole signings who doesn't have the character required to succeed in the Championship.

Getting the goals lately although the performances havent really excited me.

Guess the exciting bit is that when he does add the performances to the goals we would have a hell of a player. One im hoping gets better with fitness

I wasn't sure about him, but he is starting to look a little better now. Mind you, all of the players are looking better since Russell took over. He scored a lot of goals for a very poor Birmingham team last year so I think he can certainly cut it at this level. :ayatollah:

He has some touches of quality about him. But sometimes his little flicks don't come off and frustrates me. Andhe looks like hes been shot in 1 leg sometimes :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Macheda makes Jay Bothroyd look like a super charged striker who runs and runs all game.

He may have scored 2 goals but other than that I think Macheda has been very disappointing. Does very little off the ball and he gives the impression that he is saving his energy throughout the match. Not the most mobile and I can't recall seeing him jump off the ground to try and head a ball.

I cannot work out why Guerra has not been given a chance.
