" Vincent Tan to buy 4th club "

Thu Oct 30, 2014 6:44 pm

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has revealed he plans to extend his football portfolio to FOUR clubs after admitting he is in negotiations to invest in an unnamed European side.

The news come 24 hours after Tan confirmed he will be investing in a new Los Angeles based Major League Soccer team as part of a big-name consortium.

The Malaysian billionaire also owns FK Sarajevo in Bosnia and is convinced he can make money out of football despite pumping around £170m into the Bluebirds with little return so far.

Tan told the BBC he could now be ready to stake a claim in a fourth club, although he refused to be drawn on who it might be.

"I'm still negotiating so I'm not saying what it is now," Tan, 62, said.

"I believe the MLS will be a good investment.

"I enjoy investing in a football club and I believe that you can make money in a football club.

"I didn't really start off well investing in football, I wasn't that lucky.

"But there are a lot of clever owners who make money every year so I now understand the business so much better.

"I joked that I invested so much money in Cardiff and it is my tuition fees to learn the football business."

The Bluebirds owner is expected to join Hollywood producer Peter Guber, venture capitalist Henry Nguyen and Basketball analyst Tom Penn at the top table of a rebranded club that will replace Chivas USA in the MLS.

Last month he revealed he could quit the Bluebirds in the future after a difficult time at the club.

“If I had known that it was so difficult and the problems that we faced, maybe I wouldn’t have invested," he said.

“But having said that, I think it is a challenge and I believe that eventually this will end well. I believe that I can make this investment profitable.

“Of course, my friends think I’m crazy, that it is impossible to make it profitable, but I believe that it is possible, so time will tell.”

Doesn't sound like a man who needs to sell up in a hurry.

So Tan regards CCFC as him paying a fee in return for his apprenticeship! .....

"I joked that I invested so much money in Cardiff and it is my tuition fees to learn the football business."

It's not a joke to the players, staff and most of all, fans who have suffered during this experiment!

It's like I walked into the hairdresser but I get my barnett cut by the young trainee. So I get a rubbish cut but pay full price.

This has wound me up more than anything. The club is officially a rich man's plaything. STINKS!!!!!!

I would have thought running Cardiff would have drawn him away from football  Guess he must get a kick out of f*cking around with people! Luckily, in America, re-branding is an every day thing and he won't have any problems with that!

Hopefully he prefers the American sunshine better than rainy Wales, and decides to sell us! :bluescarf:

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan to invest in Major League Soccer franchise

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has teamed up with basketball legend Magic Johnson and other investors to secure a new Major League Soccer franchise called Los Angeles Football Club.

The new team, which is also backed by Queens Park Rangers co-owner Ruben Gnanalingam and former US women's football star Mia Hamm, will enter MLS in 2017.

"We believe this team can become a globally-recognised brand," said Los Angeles Football Club managing partner Henry Nguyen.

MLS will become a 22-club division in 2017, with a new Atlanta-based franchise also joining the league as an expansion team that season.

Tan, who also owns FK Sarajevo in Bosnia, has told BBC Sport that he will be a "minority partner" in Los Angeles Football Club.

Vincent Tan investing in Los Angeles Football Club

KUALA LUMPUR: Billionaire Tan Sri Vincent Tan is among the group of investors taking a stake in the Los Angeles Football Club.

According to BBC Sports, the other investors include American basketball great Magic Johnson and QPR co-owner Ruben Gnanalingam.

the new team will enter the Major League Soccer in 2017 alongside an expansion team in Atlanta.

Tan currently owns Cardiff City and FK Sarajevo in Bosnia.

He was quoted telling BBC Sport that he was going to be "minority partner" in the new franchise.

"That's my personal, private investment," he said. "I believe the MLS will be a good investment."

Tan, who also revealed he is seeking to invest in another unnamed European club, said he remains committed to Cardiff, which he bought in May 2010, despite their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Tan said: "I enjoy investing in a football club and I believe that you can make money in a football club. I didn't really start off well investing in football, I wasn't that lucky. But there are a lot of clever owners who make money every year so I now understand the business so much better.

“I joked that I invested so much money in Cardiff and it is my tuition fees to learn the football business," he was quoted by BBC Sport.

I love the way the term he has pumped £170 million in with little return. So what happened to the £60 million we got from sky fir last seasons shambles? The constant full ground, £30 million back on players in the summer and another £20 million off sky thus season....just little 110 million, nothing much. No wonder he is investing in more clubs when he gets so little back.

Perhaps he should concentrate on getting things right at one club before moving on to another one.

I understand the sentiments here but we have a very rich person providing the funding for our club. Something, in my 40+ years of going down, I have never seen before.

He has an involvement with a multitude of clubs and can view the qualities of far more clubs,

I see this as an opportunity for us and I am sure he sees that too.
