David Marshall, Cardiff City’s goalkeeper and captain, accepted the blame for Millwall’s winning goal at the New Den.
Marshall went to the ground after colliding with Millwall’s Scott McDonald as the ball was headed home from an inswinging corner.
And Marshall said: “Millwall’s winner came after I got caught up with McDonald too much. It was my fault for goal.
“I didn’t see header go in, but I had to do better from the cross. It was even more disappointing because we had only conceded one goal from a corner before that this season.
“We are disappointed with the defeat and the manner of it. In terms of chances there was not a lot in it and we deserved a draw.
“We had a chance to get into the top six, but it wasn’t to be and next we go again.”
The Bluebirds are at home against Leeds on Saturday, the first of three Championship fixtures before the international break in November.
Their clash with Leeds is followed by trips to Bolton and Birmingham with Marshall saying: “We could have put down a marker with a good result against Millwall and we have to make sure we pick up points in our next three matches.
“We had enough of the ball against Millwall and the chances to have made it a different game. With the quality we have in our squad we will earn an away win soon.”
Cardiff manager Russell Slade said: “When we conceded Millwall’s goal David Marshall was bundled over at a set play, but we still should be doing our jobs defensively.
“Our marking must be tight and the header was too easy from my point of view.”

You're right David - it was your fault.
However you have saved us many, many times in the past with superb saves and I have no doubt you will again.
Just spend a bit more time during training dealing with crosses and corners please.

No Chance,
Blame the players, stupid amounts of millions and we dont even have a top championship striker to show let alone a premier league player.
We should be scoring, in which case we could of took 1-1 on the chin and moved on

We never conceeded many when we brought everyone back to defend them

Part of the blame should also go to whoever decided that Macheda should mark Shittu at the corner from which we conceded the goal.
Up to that point Macheda had not won one aeriel duel with Shittu or indeed with anyone else. His idea of attacking the ball in the air seems to be to stand on the floor and hope no-one else tries to head it.
Look at the goal again and see how much more Shittu wanted to get to that ball than Macheda.
Definitely something for Slade to work on.

this. maybe a reason to bring turner back in the side?

Marshall as always self-effacing, but he is also displays great modesty in the 99% of games where he does nothing wrong.
He wasn't totally to blame for the goal and truth be told, if our strikers had done their jobs and put some into the onion bag, this uncharacteristic mistake would have had no effect on the outcome.
Last season, Marshall faced and saved more shots than any other keeper. You could blame this on the defence, but the real reason we perished was the lack of goals scored. This season will be the same. The strikers must start earning their wages imho.

Turner might help, but our best defender at corners is Kenwyne. I for one would be pleased to see him back in the side ahead of Macheda.

I blame a proven goal scorer for not scoring when gifted the chance on a plate.
