The long ball

Sun Oct 26, 2014 3:50 pm

One of the criticisms aimed at Tony Pulis over the years is that he is perceived to be a proponent of the so-called "long ball" game.

Well I'm not sure I've ever seen as many aimless long balls pumped forward as I saw by us yesterday.

Is this a tactic Mr Slade will be employing this season or were the players not doing what he was asking of them? If the latter that is a bit worrying in only his third game. If the former then at least have some tall strikers in the team who can compete for the ball when it's lumped up.

Not a short arse like Le Fondre or someone incapable of getting more than two inches off the ground like Macheda or Maynard.

Normally Turner gets the blame for whacking the ball forward but he certainly can't be blamed at the moment.

If that's the way we're going to play I can see a return in January for Jon Parkin.

Didn't Slade say players didn't keep to game plan? Which would account for long ball ? Hard for him to change while game going on, how many managers say same thing? :o

I don't think OGS wanted us to play long ball either. So why does it keep happening?

No I think mill wall just put us under so much pressure and were putting in so many big challenges that our players didn't have time on the ball and just panicked and hoofed it. Last two games have been tidier football I wouldn't get too concerned mate! :ayatollah:

Don't know what game you was watching, only seen long balls which were aimless towards the last 10 minutes.

Any other long balls came off in the first half.
