' Russell Slade Not Downbeat With Millwall Loss, but what did disappoint him '

Manager Russell Slade has refused to be downbeat following our one nil loss to Millwall yesterday, insisting we had the better chances in the tight game and really should've come out with a point to show for our efforts, if not all three.

Speaking to Wales Online following the match, the manager explained that having won his first two matches in charge, today wasn't a reality check, but he was disappointed with the response of the players when we did fall behind.

'I'm not sure reality check is the right word, I thought it was a really hard fought game, there are fine lines sometimes. I was disappointed with the way we conceded the goal, the goalkeeper was bundled over a little bit, but we still must be much tighter marking.'

Slade goes on to say that despite their not being an awful lot in the game, apart from that goal conceded he thought we had created the best two opportunities of the game and he felt our play in the first 20 minutes had deserved us going ahead but we couldn't take the advantage.

'What did disappoint me was for the 15 to 20 minutes after Millwall scored, I don't think we reacted well enough to the situation. We did not stay in control, we did not do the things we've talked about, the things we've worked on. That's something we need to learn from. We ran out of a few ideas.'

Confirming that he was far from downhearted though, because this is still a learning curve for him with the team at this stage, he admits in the dressing room afterwards he told the players they lost the game in that 20 minutes spell because we didn't take charge and react but on the basis of the other 70 minutes we at least deserved a point if not more.

However, again with the learning curve, he admits he saw things from the team he hadn't seen before and he saw weaknesses that he can now work on during training to make us better, and make us improve but he's still seeing the 'positive' steps that show we are moving forward even if he's got a few more negatives he can pick out.

I know managers talk up their teams but Russell Slade must have been watching a different game. We only had 2 decent chances, Noone' s shot/Le Fondre shot double save and Le Fondre putting it over the top. Millwall had by far the better chances and far more of them. We were lucky that it was not 3/4 nil.

Thought City went into the game thinking that it was going to be a stroll in the park for the 3 points. Showed little ambition and our performance dipped when we went behind. Played far too much hoofball and not enough football on the ground. We were out passed by Millwall.

After two good home wins a disappointing away performance yet again! Poor on the road this season.

Watched the game in full twice and I think Slade is either deluded or is playing a very careful media game.

The number of long balls throughout the game to two brutes in Millwalls defence was astonishing and the quality of free-kicks and thos elong balls at a very poor level for most of them.

Now if the players were playing under orders to pump uselsss long balls then Slade is showing his deficiences and an inability to change anything but I reckon the players are to blame as it was the last 10 mionutes when Noone came alive and we tried something on the deck for a lengthy period (if that is waht you call 10 minutes).

As for it all went wrong when Gunnarrson went off, sorry, we by-passed him 23 times before he went off with long balls.

That's Millwall and Blackpool now who have beaten us for work ethic, change of tactics, harrassment and damn good team play to the best of their ability - that's where it is all going worng in our club - not enough battlers.

As for Manga, class, just pure class.

This^^^^ ffs Slade, get real. We were there watching it,like. It wasn't a behind closed doors game. What should be said is some of our players are shithouses.

We lost to a goal that should never have stood (foul on the keeper) and had a few chances of our own, including a nailed on penalty!

Would you have written all that if we had won?? :?

As Russell Slade alludes to, it is fine margin between success and failure and our failure was in the poor reaction to going 1-0 down. I think Millwall would have struggled had we gone 1-0 up in the first half!

Just an observation and totally agree that Manga is class. A superb piece of business in the Summer!

foul on the keeper or very bad marking and protection? Millwall beat us fair ans square, we were vey poor.

Excuses of fine margins, whilst the truth, also get you relegated.

Should have lost 3/4 nil?? :laughing6: we deserved nothing? :laughing6: I am not a big fan of the Slade appointment but I think he is spot on. We lost a tight game, it could have gone either way and we should have stuck our chance away and we would have got at least a point from the game. Again he is spot on highlighting the lack of reaction from the players to going behind. He is addressing exactly what needs putting right

i say 1-0 loss was a fair result, alot of their chances were not clear cut, lots of long range. What annoyed me was the continuous long balls which Shittu and Co coped with easy, i would of thought that was clear to see to not loft balls to out forwards.
