Shocking injury inflicted on elderly Everton FC fan after French police fire tear-gas and rubber ‘flash-balls’ at supporters in Lille
Oct 24, 2014

By Neil Docking
Riot squad shot tear-gas canisters and rubber bullets the 'size of golf balls' at fans in the city’s Grand Place

An unnamed Everton fan is attended to by other fans after the incident in the Main Square in Lille. The unnamed man has a head injury possibly caused by a tear gas canister.
This is the shocking injury inflicted on an elderly Everton FC fan when French police fired tear-gas and two rubber ‘flash-balls’ at supporters in Lille.

Violent clashes between French police and Everton fans in Lille were sparked by the sighting of a known football hooligan and a suspected drug dealer.

Two rubber bullets the size of golf balls were fired at Blues fans after bottles were hurled at officers as they moved in to make arrests.

Riot police also used tear-gas in the city’s Grand Place, which was condemned by travelling Toffees as “overzealous” and “heavy-handed”.

Why do British fans seem to get the worst treatment in Europe?

They are all cowards, think they are big because they have mass numbers of idiots who don't know how to behave in their native surroundings,
as soon as they come over here they whimper through the streets like 10 year old girls in a warzone

It's a question everyone would like answers to!

If football fans get no support from the government to protect them, we are open to this abuse.

Yes, British football fans are victims of abuse home & abroad

You won't see many Lille fans around the County Road, or The Everton Valley in the return leg, not if they know what's good for them :bluescarf:

Because the police saw what chelsea did not long ago in paris.

Teams like chelsea are the reason for what happened to everton.

What reputation though? British fans are very rarely known to cause trouble in European competitions, let alone in our own country. We're well behaved compared to the rest of Europe.

Completely agree but it wasn't so long back that British & England fans terrorised Europe.
Now it's changed but the police still over react & there are still loads of hooligan element looking for British fans abroad all due to reputation from the past.
