DONT PANIC!!

Sat Oct 25, 2014 1:21 pm

Don't panic over that result, our season doesn't really start til the New year.

We've had 2 hard games in a week before this one and got 6 points, today they were just a little jaded. They aren't fit yet from the previous management, so it's going to take time to get up to speed and used to the new gaffer. That's why I say our season doesn't start til the new year. As long as we pick up points and stay amongst the chasing pack and dont go too far adrift, hopefully we can push on after Christmas.

Not a time to come on here looking for a windup.

Agree with you about the fitness. However the reality is our players are not up for it.

Today they weren't. Wall got into us from the off and our lot went into their shells. But hopefully in the next few months Slade can get a bit of fight into them and some desire when up against it. A lot of work left to do but it's not a lost cause.

How can we expect to be amongst the chasing pack if our season doesn't start until the new year? Nonsense.

What I'm saying mate is that we're so far off the pace due to the previous management, that realistically we're just playing catch up at the moment. All I'm personally hoping for is to pick up points in the next couple of months and not drop too far down the table. Once the team has more of an undertstanding and can play for the full 90, then hopefully we can push on and get in the playoffs.

Ok, but if we have any prospects of play offs we can't afford to be off the pace until the new year IMO. Still to win away, very few clean sheets, we won't be anywhere near this season I'm afraid.

I am willing to give slade some time, he done ok up till now and you can't expect him to fix everything in a few weeks. What bothered me was the way we lost today, most dire game i have seen all season. Awful hoofball.

Re: DONT PANIC!!

The season started in August. If you think any club can afford to write off chances of points for half a season, you have a reality issue.

I agree with the sentiment "Don't panic ", but only for the odd game. What you normally find is that the league table doesn't really show potential winners till after Christmas. If City want to get top 6, they need to be there or thereabouts in January imo.

This is the way I see it. Slades taken over a side with a poor pre season behind them, no fitness, no style of play and just generally confused. Now he's got the ball rolling by sticking with an 11 and trying to get some understanding going. This will take time, but as long as we win most of our home games and keep around mid table til Christmas. Hopefully things will finally come good and we can put a run together. Remember that awful Reading side we did the double over a few years back? Put a run together of 8 or so games and got promotion.

Panic seems to be exactly what our players do as soon as they are put under any pressure.

The amount of aimless balls just kicked anywhere today was incredible.

So little composure on the ball - very frustrating!

I agree - keep in touch, but we may be better than just keep in touch. The other teams have shown that they are not infallible.

Today's performance was dreadful - shame really as Millwall offered nothing than good organisation with a match plan.
To keep the play makers Whiits and Nooney penned back, forcing them to pass backwards to defenders, who took the simple option of hoofing it upfield...where their 2 dominant centre backs had a holiday. Kenwynne may have made a difference battling with Shittu, but who knows ?

The midfield were weak today....against Forest and Ispwich they were very strong. Ravel showed the way to play it when he came on...

I don´t think today was that bad, actually. I´m disappointed with the second half, but we were really unlucky not to go to into the break one up. I still don´t understand how Le Fondre was able not to score. In the first half we also dominated the game in long periods and really looked like the stronger side. I feel people in here is always too high up after a win, and too down after a loss, never able to look behind a result.

That said, if fitness is still an issue, then perhaps it would have been better not to start with the same 11 in 3 tight matches? I´m sure some of the players out in the cold, like Burgstaller, Eikrem (or even Maynard), would have put in a shift to impress the new manager. Noone looked tired today, while Dæhli has rested a lot. I´m sure you get my drift.

Good points.
They did look tired.
Dhaeli could have started instead of Noone perhaps.....but it's all easy in hindsight.
Pilkington was superb on Tuesday - who would have thought he would be so poor today ?

We don't have to have the same formation for home and away....

Re: DONT PANIC!!

Manager Russell Slade has refused to be downbeat following our one nil loss to Millwall earlier today, insisting we had the better chances in the tight game and really should've come out with a point to show for our efforts, if not all three.

Speaking to Wales Online following the match, the manager explained that having won his first two matches in charge, today wasn't a reality check, but he was disappointed with the response of the players when we did fall behind.

'I'm not sure reality check is the right word, I thought it was a really hard fought game, there are fine lines sometimes. I was disappointed with the way we conceded the goal, the goalkeeper was bundled over a little bit, but we still must be much tighter marking.'

Slade goes on to say that despite their not being an awful lot in the game, apart from that goal conceded he thought we had created the best two opportunities of the game and he felt our play in the first 20 minutes had deserved us going ahead but we couldn't take the advantage.

'What did disappoint me was for the 15 to 20 minutes after Millwall scored, I don't think we reacted well enough to the situation. We did not stay in control, we did not do the things we've talked about, the things we've worked on. That's something we need to learn from. We ran out of a few ideas.'

Confirming that he was far from downhearted though, because this is still a learning curve for him with the team at this stage, he admits in the dressing room afterwards he told the players they lost the game in that 20 minutes spell because we didn't take charge and react but on the basis of the other 70 minutes we at least deserved a point if not more.

However, again with the learning curve, he admits he saw things from the team he hadn't seen before and he saw weaknesses that he can now work on during training to make us better, and make us improve but he's still seeing the 'positive' steps that show we are moving forward even if he's got a few more negatives he can pick out.

Agree with OP. We were on top I thought until Gunnar went off. Le Fondre missed a sitter and Millwall started to believe.

Still better than any away performance I can remember this season

Not panicking at all, we are much better than we were under Ole,we could of even gone down under Ole.
Will we go up under Slade? ? ?

No. Yesterday proved we are too soft so even the lower teams will know they can out battle us. We will struggle away all season unless we can get some steel into midfield which means waiting until January - too late.

The way Whittingham lost the ball for the first goal we conceded this season showed the signs were there.

I don't believe it will be too late come January.
If we are mid table or just above there is plenty of time to make the play offs especially as the league seems to be very open this season.
