Do you agree with Chris Burke ?

Sun Oct 19, 2014 9:56 pm

Nottingham Forest winger Chris Burke believes had yesterday’s game with Cardiff gone on any longer The Reds would have taken something from the match.

The former Cardiff player said that Forest came out at the start of the second half believing they could still win, despite trailing 2-0.

Speaking to Forest Player, he said: “We did believe that we could have won the match coming out for the second half and had it gone on any longer we would have nicked something.”

Britt Assombalonga pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 89th minute but it proved to be too little too late and The Reds slumped to their first league defeat of the season.

It could all have been so different had Burke given Forest the lead in the 20th minute, when his shot was cleared off the line.

“It was a weird one, I don’t know why he was on the line if I’m honest, but he’s cleared that and then football is a strange game. Within a minute they go up the park and score and it changes the whole outlook of it.

“We were confident if we’d have taken the lead we’d have gone on to win the match, but obviously as I said football’s a strange game, it’s all about little minor things. They go up the park and score which was a killer blow.”

But Burke added that The Reds have the perfect chance to bounce back at Watford on Tuesday night.

“That’s a plus side in this league. The games come thick and fast and you get an opportunity to make it right in a couple of days time. We’ll be looking to do that against Watford.

“We believe if we play well and better than we did here then we can get the three points.”

No, they barely threatened us before the last ten minutes.

Until the substitutions and injury to Adeyemi they weren't looking that threatening.

And if the game kicked off later we may not have gone 2nil up. Shut up burke, it is what it is. You had the same amount of minutes to score goals as we did and we scored more. Any loser could say they 'could have won if the game went on longer'

Exactly.

What a stupid thing to say. That could be said for over 100 matches every week, like Palace yesterday for example could say that they could have got a draw. There's a reason why a game is 90 minutes with added on time.

Idiotic statement and Forest were very poor in the final pass.. they had the chances to cut the ball back to one of their players.

I agree if Burke was a poster on here he'd be in the biggest whopper thread

Just admit we were the better team for the majority of the 90 minutes, Burkey. Like someone else said, Forest barely threatened us until they scored a few minutes before the end of the game

Chris Burke (defo half a yard slower than I remember) seems to think his current team were hard done by, but to say "if it had gone on any longer..." is a sign of pure bitterness, as last time I looked the game was still 90 mins + stoppage time!

Change of song methinks:

He drifts to the left,
He drifts to the right,
That young boy 'Nooney'
Makes Chris Burke look shite!

Still, I guess he'll be on the move "closer to home" again soon!

Where next? Leeds, Middlesbrough, FC Berwick-on-Tweed???? :laughing6: :laughing6:

Just stick stuff you say in the situation, Burke knows the truth really. Odd game for Burke, their best player for much of the game but went down way too easily at times, if he'd done more of the former they'd have been a lot more threatening through out.

Re: Do you agree with Chris Burke ?

Mon Oct 20, 2014 7:05 am

This is absolutely laughable

No doubt if Forest miss out on promotion by a point Burkey will be saying "if we had another game we would have gone up" !!

Burke did his usual of having a great first 30 mins and then hardly touching the ball, maybe he should look closer to home as to why Forest hardly threatened despite all their possession in the 2nd half

No, Ifs and buts don't matter a jot.If Morrison had scored after the break at 3-0 that would be it blah blah blah.
City well deserved that victory, was impressed with their closing down and much improved possession and use of it. Losing Fabio just prior to KO was a big blow and must have upset the balance a fair bit. I thought Burke was going to make us pay early on but as the game went on he became quieter and quieter.Whether that was down to him or us getting to grips with him I'm not sure.
Only concern, but to be expected, we looked very tired in the last ten mins, hopefully as the better fitness regime kicks in that will improve. We sat way to deep in those last few mins, tired minds and tired bodies. Great start though

It's Kenwyne Jones

as simple as that, the shape changes we can't play a certain way and we are useless in the final 3rd

Agree with Burkey, we have an uncanny ability to sit back when we take the lead, no matter how well we are playing. The last ten is always backs against the wall, it's been the clubs mentality for years. Hopefully Slade can change this, as were a big club in this league and have the players to keep the ball.

stupid comment from Burke, Forrest didn't threaten in the slightest all game. Fresh pair of legs done us at the end but that was it. Tw A T

Bit silly this as the game is only 90 mins. How long should a game go on for ? So Mr Burke in the time allowed you could not win or even draw the game. How much longer would you of needed to got the two extra goals ?

Also if the ref had done his job, Asybongawonga wouldn't of even been on the bloody pitch to score the goal. He should have received a second yellow for throwing the ball away, but the ref missed it......

I agree with him, it is likely they would have scored, once they changed their midfield set up in the second half and we had lost Gunnarsson, we were on the back foot again. However, apart from Sheffield Wednesday, Forest were easily the worst team on the day I have seen City play this season in the League. But I think Burkey will realise his side have been slipping a bit over the last few weeks so I think his clsims for his team might be a little fanciful.

noone proved to be a poor choice of left back and had the game gone on longer they may well have got a point.....but the game didnt and forest lost..... :ayatollah:

Its 90mins plus injury time..........we won.........end of conversation.

Re: Do you agree with Chris Burke ?

Mon Oct 20, 2014 2:23 pm

we were hanging on by the end, if football was 100 minutes instead of 90, which it isn't, it certainly looked to me like forest would have equalised.

don't see the problem with burke saying that, some people seem to look to be offended. he had a very good game to be fair to him :bluescarf:

Re: Do you agree with Chris Burke ?

Mon Oct 20, 2014 3:18 pm

Envy is a terrible thing. I know what Burke was trying to say, but the players on the pitch ration their energy over the 90 mins. 2-0 is a difficult lead to protect as we discovered! Truth is they scored at 89 minutes and did nothing before that. Some have pointed out Marshall's save, but that's why he's tgere!! In fact, he faced less challenges against Forest than he has in other games.

If the game was longer, etc., etc.... Yes if my Auntie Sonia had balls, she'd be my uncle too!

Like I said, the green eyed monster!

Burke is a moaning little prick. Constantly whinging to the ref throughout the game. Made to look better by Ralls and noone not being full backs

A bit like saying 'I want to move North to be closure to my family' then moves to Birmingham'.
