Russell Slade: New Cardiff boss aims to cut squad

Fri Oct 17, 2014 9:41 am

New Cardiff City manager Russell Slade wants to reduce the size of their 31-strong squad.
He made the statement ahead of his first game in charge - Saturday's Championship match against unbeaten Nottingham Forest in Cardiff.
"If we want to talk about that togetherness, then I do believe that group has to be smaller," said Slade.
His appointment was sealed on 6 October after protracted talks with former club Leyton Orient.
Slade, 53, has previously said he believes Cardiff can reach the play-offs despite lying 15th going into Saturday's encounter, but warned "it will hurt".
Cardiff defender Sean Morrison underlined Slade's approach, saying: "The boys have taken to him really well. He wants a hard-working group."
Cardiff have won just three of their 11 matches in the Championship after being relegated following one season in the Premier League.
Slade's appointment followed the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who had been in charge since January.
He has also previously said he would not rule out offering some players out on loan to other clubs.
Forest will arrive at Cardiff City Stadium for the lunchtime kick-off with five wins and six draws having put them second behind leaders Norwich in the table.

"They've not lost for a reason, but nobody is invincible," said Slade.

Haha would anybody listen to Sean Morrison after his statement of Cardiff City reserves could win the Championship - or words to that effect!!
I think every one would agree that the squad needs to be trimmed right down. Further proof of OGS being pretty clueless.

Ridiculous having that many players on the books.

But apart from Marshall, Manga, Brayford, Fabio, Noone and Daehli who is worth keeping?

Have to agree on current form. Jones, Guerra and Ravel (as long as we can) are keepers for me too.

Sad that Guerra has not been given a chance

I agree with the 6 names mentioned, though still not 100% convinced about Daheli. Who knows we might even get fees for some of them if there are any managers as daft as Ole aaround.

Oli really didn't have a clue what he was doing. He should have kept things simple. I like what slide says about building a team ambiance.

Guerra the striker that doesn't want to be here. 3 managers haven't picked him, there's obviously something wrong

Isnt it this type of mentality that got us into this situation in the 1st place?

Cut the squad down and then work with what we've got. We've spent enough as it is.
