Dave Jones emerges as early front runner for Tranmere Rovers job after Rob Edwards' sacking

Merseysider Jones is understood to have watched a number of Tranmere's recent games
Merseysider Dave Jones has emerged as an early front runner for the vacant managerial position at Tranmere, following the departure of Rob Edwards.
Jones, 58, enjoyed success as a manager with Stockport County, Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday.
Out of work since leaving Sheffield Wednesday last December, Jones is understood to have watched a number of Tranmere's recent games.
Jones spent five seasons as a player with Everton during the 1970s.
Another potential candidate is Kenny Shiels, a former manager in Scotland with Kilmarnock who worked as the head of youth at Prenton Park between 2007 and 2010.
Bookmakers made former Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore a 4-1 favourite to return for a third spell.
Moore was suspended and then dismissed last season after admitting to a breach of the FA rules on betting.
Moore was not punished heavily by the FA for the minor offence but lost out on 15 months of his contract at Prenton Park.
He was in the frame for the recent vacancy at Carlisle United, now filled by Keith Curle.Another former Everton player, James Beattie, is quoted at 6-1. Beattie left his post at Accrington Stanley earlier this season.
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler figures in the betting at 6-1 although he may not have the contacts at the levels required in the game which Tranmere chairman Mark Palios says he is looking for.

Jason Koumas will be happy if Jones gets the job.

he was continually offered jobs we are told, by smaller PL teams. really? were we really lucky to have this man managing us for 6 years?
and his next job after us was in league 1. tranmere are in league 2.
yes, he seems more interested in family life than ruthless ambition, but that alone must tell you something about how good a manager he is / was.
