Bolton Wanderers hope to parade their new manager on Monday, after Neil Lennon was named as Dougie Freedman’s successor.
Freedman was sacked at the start of this month after almost two years in the role, with the team rooted to the foot of the Championship. Tony Mowbray, Steve Clarke and Chris Hughton were among those linked with the Lancashire club but it is Lennon who has been handed the post six months after leaving Celtic.
“The club are delighted and excited to appoint Neil Lennon. He brings with him experience at the highest level and an infectious enthusiasm to take the club forward,” read a club statement.
Lennon will be joined at the club by assistant manager Johan Mjallby and the first-team coach Garry Parker.
Lennon was approached by the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad within the past fortnight but opted against a move to the Middle East. He was also believed to be in the frame to replace Felix Magath at Fulham but it was Bolton who moved quicker to secure the Northern Irishman.
As the manager of Celtic, Lennon won three Scottish titles in a row and two Scottish Cups. His reign will perhaps be best remembered for the run to the last 16 of the Champions League in 2012-13, which included a memorable win over Barcelona in Glasgow. Bolton have won only five points from 11 league games, having won just a single match. Their next one is away to fellow strugglers Birmingham City on Saturday.

I bet we wished we had Lennon instead of a league one manager

Neil Lennon mayb be a tosser of the first order but on pure footballing terms
561 first team appearances.
40 international caps
4 trophies in 4 seasons.
2 Championships titles.
Managed a team who beat Barcelona in the Champions League
Whereas Russell Slade........
Even assuming that the SPL is about the same standard as League 1, Lennon's record is a bit more impressive than Russell's.

The current bloke seems to be struggling somewhat.
What is it with Norwegian managers? f*cking useless the lot of them!
Get your dogs in Gareth!

Don't think much of Lennon as a person comes across as a bit of an idiot but I don't think the celtic job is as easy as people make out. Even if you have the players you still have to make them play for you. Every game against celtic is like a cup final for a lot of the other teams. Celtic in 6th at the moment so not as easy a job folk make out in my opinion.

I wouldn't have minded seeing him as our manager. Not the most likeable of fellas perhaps, but he seems to have a knack of getting his players organised and bang up for it. I don't care how a manager comes across in interviews ect, I just want him to get the best out of our players and show some enthusiasm in the job. Different expectations at a club like Celtic that are probably just as tough to achieve for a manager as it is for a manager to achieve his expected goals at a championship club imo

Not on my part just relief he didn't come to our club

I don't see why it's a shock, he's an average manager joining the bottom team of the league. I admit I would've liked him here (based on the candidates) but am I gutted? Not at all. He hasn't done that much to prove himself other than winning the Scottish League with Celtic, which isn't exactly a big deal.
I'm actually starting to warm to the idea of Slade here, I have a good feeling about him. Then again, we're Cardiff City, it will probably be a disaster. We'll see what happens.

How did Malky get on with being linked to the job.... Oh yeah.. the usual

Yeah, not Lennon's biggest fan. He was a nasty c**t of a player and he's not really painted himself in the best image as manager of Celtic. Always tries to play the victim but then does nothing but antagonize people. Plus, let's face it, nobody likes a f*cking ginger!
