Signing Orient Players

Sun Oct 12, 2014 9:26 am

I know Russell slade has done well at orient and has a good record at getting the best out of players and motivating them etc. But I'm struggling to see how any player from a team in relagation places in league 1 can improve and get in a team which is aiming for promotion in the championship. I hope slade is setting the bar higher than this..
And to be honest I can't see hardly any lower league players getting in to the first 11 here because of the quality already in this squad. I would have thought he is better off getting the best out of what's already here what you think?

From what I have seen and read on their forum orients two stand out players are dean cox - a winger who could have championship quality and scores goals, but is he better than pilkington noone and daehli?
And romain vincelot - a French central midfield player who has a never say die attitude and also scores goals, but is he better than whittingham gunnarsson ravel dikgachoi adeyemi and ralls?

We should sign Dean Cox and Vincelot from them. Dean Cox picked up 19 goals from the wing last season and was one of the top goal scorers in league 1. Vincelot use to play for Brighton when Noone was there and in an interview Noone said he's the best player he's ever played with. He's known for being a dog, hard working and a warrior, a type of player we really need.

If Vincelot was so good as Noone thinks he wouldn't be playing in League 1. Just because they do well in League 1 does not mean they will be good enough for a club that wants to be contender for the PL.
Not to mention we are not talking about young players with potential and time to improve here we are talking about players in their late 20s thats never competed on a higher level. There is obviously a reason why they are still at a club like Orient.

I hope Slade looks elsewhere or it sounds very much like OGS brought in players from his old club, he is underestimating the calibre of players you need to compete at this level.

In that interview Craig noone said it was Vicente who was the best player he's ever played with ex Valencia player who he played with at Brighton not vincelot.
And from when I looked cox scored 15 goals last season not 19, still a very good return from midfield but will he be effective doing it at this level?
Both players would be a gamble but we do have quality players already in the squad so maybe it would be a gamble worth taking.

Do we really want to sign a 29 year old thats been playing in league 1 and 2? Surely we should aim higher?

But it doesn't mean they are not ready. Look at Charlie Adam. You never know they may have had injuries or made poor decisions, very negative point of view.
