i have read all the conjecture in previous posts about various formations... the best squad we have ever had..favourites for promotion...and everyone has their own views ....and rightly so
But for me we lack a leader in midfield.. we are also short on pace ..but the most crucial point for me is...no matter who you put in midfiled and no matter whether its 3=5=2 4-4-2 4-5-1 or even -3-6-1...there is no vocal or commanding leader in the middle of the park

City def need a Leader on the pitch, the Captain needs to be out there, Marshall could then be Club Captain

OGS. in my opinion, made his biggest mistake by letting Mark Hudson go because he had proven to be THE leader in our squad. OGS had put Hudson down by saying because of his injuries he was no longer capable of playing every game in the Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday demands of the division. Since his transfer he has yet to miss a single minute for Huddersfield.
Another poor decision by OGS remove our leader and not replace him.

Spoke to Mark at a fuel station monday, a real genuine bloke who had all the time to speak, his family are still living down here and were very settled but they are moving up north soon as possible, rumours of the squad fitness are very true and described as shocking, wished him well what a nice bloke

Hudson did well for us the season we got promoted but besides that I thought he was poor , plus his best games played was when Bellamy was captain so I can not understand all this Hudson talk.
We do need a leader but Marshall has been made captain and I can not see that being taken from him but we what we need is a bellamy in midfield an assistant captain to Marshall who is more involved in the game than in his own 25.

our leader became a member of the STAFF

i agree and said so at the time. what a great influence it would be for huds to come in when there were injuries, perhaps play 25 games a season.
the consensus here though was that he is crap on the field so get rid of him ASAP, which i thought was wide of the mark!

Ive said since the start of the season I dont think our squad is the best in the league, we struggle in the centre of midfield and lack pace and power and cover at left back.
I think the leader thing is a very small issue, the quality of certain areas of the squad is more conerning. people go on about Hudson but I dont think he would have been starting even if fit.

I disagree 2 blue...I think the leader is a critical issue, not small...the leader is needed in the centre of the park..
the team has no leadership or cohesion ..if you brought in a new left back it still needs a Kavanagh,Alan Campbell, Paul Ramsey type figure ..to pull that midfield together ..drive them on keep their momentum and closing down going. Their rudderless in the middle of the park. You agree the midfield is weak. That s why a leader in there to direct play is for me essential
I agree Hudson was not the answer as he wouldn t have been first choice but how can a leader be a small issue ?

To me your just describing a type of midfielder you think we need and I agree. If we had quality in the centre then it would help the team, him being a leader would be ideal but I'd rather a good player than a average player who can lead.

11 average leaders could turn over our team of "good" players right now, which shows how essential it is we have leaders on the pitch, particularly down the spine.

In your opinion maybe.
I think it's clear our squad isn't as good as people think. I don't think adding Hudson would have made any difference to our season. Getting in a quality cm would though.

Agree

To be honest I think it's difficult despite having potential leaders in the midfield...
IMO the only one we really can have at the moment is Gunnarsson
I also think having Whitts out there makes it a bit tough on anyone new coming in trying to lead the midfield (why I'm saying I can only really see Gunnarsson doing so at the moment). He's an established player who is very timid and calm... Tough to try to command or lead a person like that.
If you're trying to get everyone up to a 10 for the game and one more experienced/man who's been there much longer refuses to go past 7... then other younger players are looking at Whitts thinking they shouldn't go past a 7 either.
Same thing happens in business teams all the time. Older more established employee stiffles creativity of the newer employees.
Not saying Whitts is bad - just saying it could be the reason, especially with such a young midfield.
Fri Oct 10, 2014 7:11 am
Sorry, totally disagree
For one Gunnarrsson is no leader and I don't think he is good enough...Look how many times he gives the ball away
Two. If whittingham as you say wont try hard enough...simples...drop him.
You can not have a team fighting at the top the league without a natural leader...some good teams have two or three
we don't have one...our team has either youngsters and the more experienced who should be setting an example and leading the younger players, the older players are either not good enough or too quiet.
If as you say that whitts wont perform beyond a 7 because either he doesn't want to or he's a prima dona...then that's where your manager comes in and its either shape up or ship out. There is no excuse for lack of effort.
