' Ravel Morrison has the class of Gareth Bale but his attitude is holding back his talent '
By HARRY REDKNAPP
Thurs 9 October 2014
For 50 years, Harry Redknapp has been one of football’s most colourful and outspoken characters.
RAVEL MORRISON FACT FILE
Age: 21
Born: Wythenshawe, Manchester
Position: Midfielder
Clubs: Manchester United (2010-12), West Ham United (2012-), Birmingham City (loan, 2012-13), Queens Park Rangers (loan, 2014), Cardiff City (loan, 2014-)
Career appearances: 70
Career goals: 14
I had Ravel Morrison at QPR last season. Sir Alex Ferguson said he was the most naturally gifted player he had seen at Manchester United since Paul Scholes - and then sold him because he could do nothing with him.
He’d been at West Ham, scored one of the goals of the season against Tottenham but they, too, found it hard to control him. He’d already had one loan spell at Birmingham City, but ended up with me.
The kid can really play. He goes past people and makes them look silly. He’s like the strolling England player Alan Hudson in the 1970s. He doesn’t run, he glides.
Redknapp has compared Morrison's ability to former England star Alan Hudson's (centre) in the 1970's
By the time we came to the end of the season, though, he couldn’t get in our starting line-up.
There was one game last season when we’d lost confidence and were losing. I asked him to change his position, to play on the left. His face fell into a petulant pout.
‘I pulled him away from the rest, took him outside and explained as patiently as the time allowed. ‘Ravel, we are losing the f****** game,’ I said. ‘I just want you to play there and do a job for the team. We have to win the game. It’s not about you, OK? It’s about the team.
‘People look at your face in there when I’ve asked you to do something, and they will all go away and think you are a big-headed b*stard, because your attitude stinks. That’s what people say about you.’
Second half he was absolutely different class. He ran the game, everything good we did came from him and we were all watching it thinking, ‘‘What a talent’’. You looked at that performance and thought he could get us promoted on his own if he put his mind to it. It was like watching a player with Gareth Bale’s class in the Championship.
Lee Clark, the Birmingham City manager, said to Ravel that he was the best player since Gazza. His response: ‘Who’s Gazza?’
Should that surprise us? Admittedly that World Cup in Italy is 24 years ago now, and Ravel is 21, but however long ago it was I think he can be expected to know who Paul Gascoigne is. But it does show you that when you’ve gone, when you’ve had your day, nobody cares.
If Morrison had played consistently at his best, he might have gone to the World Cup; on his bad days you wouldn’t have put him in our reserve team.

I can certainly see the likeness to Alan Hudson as I remember him well but Gareth Bale?
He's nowhere near the class of Bale on or off the pitch.
One thing comes out from this clip is the guy sounds as thick as shit.

Tbh I think he meant it as when he (Redknapp) was at Tottenham Bale ran the show each game and could win them the game on his own, like Ravel on his day, which IMO he can. His quility it top class just depends on if he can change (Y)

Fair enough but he'll never be near Bale's class IMO.
Let's hope RS can motivate him & bring the best out of him whilst he's here.

People like Morrison are easy to deal with. They just need a slap back to reality. I dont know the guy but i would expect that because he knows hes a very good footballer and has bags of money he thinks hes better than the world and rules dont apply to him. People like that are in abundance in this world. We or whatever team he graces needs a manger or player who doesnt deal with this kind of bullshit and slap him down a peg or 2. Like a boy with a slapped ass, he will sulk for a bit but soon follow in line.

Don't worry we'll knock that class out of him !!!!!

so what if he has talent.
plenty of players have talent, but without dedication and the right attitude, he'll continue knocking about lower PL and championship clubs.
if he puts his mind to football for the next 5 years he'll set himself up for life. if i was his manager i'd put him in touch with Dr Steve Peters

You think Fergie didn't try?

The man dealt with the plenty of difficult characters.
He is very talented but you can't get away with acting like a diva if you haven't achieved nothing. You'll have to be someone of Messi stature to get away with bad behaviour, a lesser player will just be sold or shipped out on loan which is what is happening to Ravel. Doesn't matter that you have potential, many players have talent, but if you don't have work ethic its not gonna go anywhere.
Look up Ronaldo, yes he was a cocky son of the bitch but he worked his bollocks off to become the best he could be.First person on the training pitch last person to leave. Eats well and trains well. Pogba is the same, a bit of a diva yeah but the guy is very professional when it comes to his football.
Bale is another one, he had tough times at Spurs too, was benched and even almost sold to Birmingham when he was younger. The guy picked himself up and worked his balls off, came back stronger and now one of the best players in the world.
The ones that make it are the ones who don't think they have made it, they have that drive to improve on their talent all the time.

I'm just being brutal honest not pessimistic,
If he doesn't change his attitude his career will be over by 25.
Lifestyle and dedication makes a world class player not talent

Horrible to see players like him going down a bad route, look at the likes of Henderson, Clyne.. young players who have settled down and grown each year at very big clubs for the players they were when they first signed for Liverpool and Southampton.
