New Cardiff boss Russell Slade offers value for Vincent Tan

VINCENT TAN may have felt shortchanged by his previous managers at Cardiff but Russell Slade had vowed to deliver value for money.

Owner Tan led the recruitment process after being dissatisfied with the job Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Malky Mackay had done at the club.

Slade, who left Leyton Orient, has been appointed on a less lucrative contract than those enjoyed by his predecessors, but plans to live up to Tan's high expectations.

He said: "I think the owner feels he has been shortchanged by previous managers if I am honest.

"We have a very strong budget for this league and the players are openly very well paid. There is no denying that.

"We cannot hide that fact and from that we should be doing better than we are. The group of players we have should be performing better than we are.

"We are underachieving. Having said that, there are some good people in the squad.

"Going forward there is a good nucleus of players. There will be some tweaks and changes along the way as I try to put my stamp on it.

"I've had a couple of good and honest conversations with the owner.

"He wants value for money from his football club. There's a big budget here and he's put a lot of money into it.

"He wants that work ethic and honesty on the pitch, I am hoping together we can provide that."

Slade takes over a side languishing in 15th place in the table, having been among the pre-season favourites for promotion

Annis - If I was the owner, they wouldn't be so well paid and that's a fact.

I agree. It was only a few seasons ago when Michael Chopra was our top earner, allegedly, on over £20.000 a week.

Now we find our club in a situation where, allegedly, nine or ten players are on over £35.000 a week.

Work out the economic maths yourself,,,but if this is true, its not good,,,certainly not current "value for money"!
