Another route has been dropped at Cardiff airport

I see that City Jet are stopping their route from Cardiff to Glasgow now. That airport is a waste of time and taxpayers money

The airport is a joke Bristol stole the march on us years ago they redeveloped the airport and attracted more airlines
For a capitol city airport its pathetic.

It's a business, if no one is going to Glasgow obviously, why have a route, get more planes to Spain and places people want to go......

Grated it's a business but there's also things like Landing rates which wffect the price of your seat. If Bristol is cheaper to fly from even after the extra fuel and bridge costs then why not ?

I worked there many moons ago when Bristol and Cardiff passenger numbers were on a par.

There was a push to get a road built past the Bosch plant straight off the motorway. Thus would have blown Bristol out of the water at the time.

Anyway nothing came of it then Bristol built a new terminal and look what happened.

The WAG should never have risked our taxes in the first place on the shithole and had gone with the Independent advice they spend millions on already and gone with the Sevenside Airport project: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-23988550

City jet, have cancelled their flights to Glasgow as nobody was using them, it was nothing to do with landing fees etc, so don't have a go at the Airport, it was a business decision by City jet.

Nobodies using them because easyjet from Bristol is cheaper

Rubbish, they were a lot cheaper than Bristol, doesn't anyone check prices any more, obviously you don't

Just thought I would let you know, Easyjet have NO flights going from Bristol to Glasgow, got it wrong again haven't you?

I'd much rather the airport be in public hands where we know the owners have a strong interest in the airport being not only profitable but also being an integral part of a wider plan to help serve the economy of the area. Judge it after ten years not ten minutes. :bluescarf:

In the days of GoFly and BMIbaby, I was a regular traveller by air to Cardiff. There were 3 flights a day and they were regularly, but not always, full. There are plenty of people who would love to fly from either Glasgow or Edinburgh to cardiff, but the prices have doubled now....I do the megabus overnight now as its a lot cheaper.

Why do people think Bristol is better than roose? Terminal small, rd access appalling as bad as ours, our runway far superior! reason its got more airlines is because its catchment area is far greater and not so far to travel from these areas, the main problem is roose will not make a decision on anything in case they upset Bristol! How many times have they complained about us wanting to do something that threatens their interests? And we drop subject. At end of the day we can expand as much as we like but Bristol cannot due to their location, so why didn't all previous owner's expand instead of running it down, that's why wag took it over! What is another owner going to do to rectified problems? Wag won't spend on new link rd so is new owner's going to pay for one? Or will they spend multi millions upgrading roose don't think so! We are stuck with second class airport until someone at wag as the balls to tell Bristol f off we doing what we can to take business off you!

That was time for flights to Edinburgh when they were at roose, bristol just walk all over us in everything to win customers we just lay back and take it.

Living in Glasgow I'm a bit gutted by this news. People saying its a business decision because no one uses them - people don't use them because they charge over £100 at times for a return, whereas with easyjet you can get a return for around £50, I fly to bristol more because of the cost.

This is the sad truth, CWL do not look at competing on price with the equivalent Bristol flights. I personally fly around 50-60 times a year and i would be lucky if around 5 of those trips are possible/competitively priced from Cardiff, I would love to go out of CWL as I am less than 10 mins from the airport. The costs are a world apart for the same destinations

CWL - AMS (with KLM) = £383
BRS - AMS (KLM) = £212 or Easyjet £170

It is very difficult to justify the extra from Cardiff, plus the convenience of more flights to choose from. If Cardiff want to seriously look to gain market share they need to seriously address this. The other sad fact is that when i am up in Bristol airport i am surrounded by South Wales accents and barely a carrot muncher within earshot

another thing that isnt mentioned is that airlines dropping routes are small in comparrison to easy jet ect so look at financial costs more and unfortunately we are at bottom of league when it comes to passenger numbers for that particular airline so easy decision to make which airport to take route off! not rocket science :o

Over the past four years I've used Cardiff airport forty eight times, travelling back and fore to Rome with work. Always used KLM, changing at their hub in Amsterdam. Must admit, I've been happy enough with the service, and, all things considered, the price. Perhaps I'm lucky to be able to afford it, but there are no hidden extras, and the travel is reasonably comfortable, and the airline looks after me.

For those of us travelling from further west, Cardiff is more convenient than Bristol.

If KLM left, that would probably finish off Cardiff airport. It's all very well having low-cost airlines, and bucket and spade charter flights, but Cardiff, (I still call it Rhoose most of the time), needs to attract serious carriers too. Not everybody wants cheap and cheerful. Any airport needs a mix of carriers, and, of course, a decent selection of destinations.

Our views on airports, like everything else, are influenced by our politics. Some want Cardiff airport to fail, some want it to succeed. In an ideal world, we would have a Severnside International Airport, but the reality is two, comparatively small, airports competing with each other.

If you read my post carefully I said in reply to adam that Easyjet has no flights, going to glasgow and that is correct, wether any other airline has is not the question

You need to will of the Welsh Government to do such a thing yet they stick two fingers up to what the Independent advisors told them after paying them millions to do their investigation and buy that taxpayer black hole in Rhoose

a seven side airport was proposed about 40yrs ago and comes up every now and then but wont happen as bristol to much to lose now, as for rhoose mmmmm wag need to grow set of balls and challenge bristol! instead of hiding behind euro rules and relegations about what can and cannot be done its just an excuse for not doing something, because bristol and others just find ways around rules wag dont.

So why spend millions of our money on Independent investigation if they were never going to go for it anyway..? If it was their own personal wealth then they would never waste it in such a way
