Fleetwood's fans

Sun Oct 05, 2014 4:12 pm

While up Blackpool, I took the tram up to Fleetwood to watch them play home to Port Vale Saturday. The crowd was 4,196 and the noise, passion and atmosphere of the Fleetwood fans put us to shame. It brought back memories of when we were in the lower leagues with the diehards congregated together creating the intimidating Ninian Park atmosphere. Unfortunately, those days have now gone. We will never generate an atmosphere for home games like those 4,196 fans. Credit to Fleetwood, a very impressive fan base. We used to be like that once. :(

We are like little lambs at home now, that's how our club like it, the stadium manager was tasked with a "divide and segregate" mentality in the stadium, the club wanted certain elements in our support stamped on hard. The atmosphere down the council stadium for PL games is as loud as he'll compaired to our "toe the line" home fans :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Ross, Good to hear and see you had a good time up there.

Fans in the Lower Divisions, for me have more passion and and more loyal than Premier League Fans :thumbright: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Cheers Annis. I agree fans in the lower divisions are the true fans. All the Fleetwood fans were telling me what a fantastic journey it's been for them rising through the divisions. They're a great set of fans and I wish them well, although I had to draw the line with their "come on your reds" chant and bite my lip from shouting "you jack b*stard!" to Stephen Dobbie and Richard Duffy.

Ross, When I'm not watching Cardiff, I much prefer watching smaller clubs play than Prem football, I feel fans care so much more for their clubs :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

How many vale fans were there though? At a guess I'd say over 1000, but you're right, nice little ground, and quite vocal fans when I went there last season. :thumbright:

As a Season ticket holder in our lower division days, I think you're exaggerating how intimidating us City fans were. I remember plenty of times the likes of Rochdale, sat in upper block A, out singing us City fans. Don't get me wrong, there were games where we were intimidating, but that was the exception rather than the rule. I suggest you take the rose tinted specs off.

One game where Cardiff fans miraculously decided to make some noise at home, probably just the excitement of the pl, we barely make any noise away from home now. Poor effort on most outings ive been too.

yeah but most on the time in NP it was dead. people are remembering the 'big' games like leeds etc, but on the whole the atmosphere wasn't all that good in NPs last 15-20 years

Vale brought a good following fair play. They're not a big club but they turned up in numbers. Saying that Fleetwood is only an hour and a half up the road for them. Considering the extra hours we have to travel with our geographical location, we put other clubs our size to shame with the numbers we take away.

Couldn't disagree more. The Eddie May era was my favourite period watching the City and one of those reasons was because Ninian Park was bouncing.
