Peter Whittingham last night entered the top 10 in Cardiff city's appearance records
1 Phil Dwyer 1972–85 531
2 Don Murray 1962–74 483
3 Tom Farquharson 1921–34 481
4 Peter King 1960–74 431
5 Ron Stitfall 1947–64 421
6 Fred Keenor 1920–30 414
7 Billy Hardy 1920–31 408
8 Alan Harrington 1952–66 381
9 Alf Sherwood 1946–56 372
10 Peter Whittingham 2007 -present 340
At 30 years old he has time to break phil Dwyers record if he can keep his place in the team

Should be his last appearance for a while in my opinion. He his really not on his game one bit, free kicks are awful. And you can add Gunnarson to the drop list too, his beard seems to be weighing him down.

He couldn't lace the boots of anyone of the players above him on that list.

Entered record books for player going missing in games the most....

This.
just goes to show how weak we are if he's played so much RECENTLY.
couple of good seasons but now well past sell by date. IMO.

Rarely post on here but our fans sometimes need to get a grip, Witts has been a loyal servant for us with a pretty good goalscoring record for a midfielder. I agree his set piece delivery hasnt been spot on this season but to get the criticism he does shows how fickle some of our fans are. If Witts ran around like a lunatic every time he scored and wasnt as laid back as he is then that would probably please our fans but thats not his nature. I dont think we will realise how good Witts has been for us until he has gone. I for one will remember Witts fondly as a City legend.

Bit harsh some of these comments lads.

This club has too many pathetic cry baby fans.

I agree I think some of our fans need to get a grip. If they think this guy deserves all these appearances, then sadly it shows the low level of football knowledge in these parts.

3= Wales Carl Dale 94 (253)
3= England Jimmy Gill 94 (212)
5 England Brian Clark 91 (240)
6 England Peter King 89 (431)
7= Scotland Hughie Ferguson 87 (131)
7= Wales John Toshack 87 (193)

TBH Whittingham needs to be put in an isolation chamber, preferbly for a long time.
He offers nothing but a lack of pace and shit set pieces, Eeohore could outpace the c**t.
DROP HIM SLADE !!!

Some of our fans really need to get a grip when it comes to Peter Whittingham as there is just no way can you understate his contribution to our club.
You only have to look at the ALLTIME statistics for the Championship to understand how influential a player he is at this level. At the moment Whitts is 7th in the list of alltime goalscorers in the Championship, top of the list of alltime assists in the Championship, top of the list of alltime penalties scored. 8th in the list of alltime hatricks in the Championship and 6th in the list of alltime appearances in the Championship, if it hadn't been for last season he would be 2 games off top of that list.
I suppose to some of our fans he isn't fit to lace the boots of other players on that list of alltime Championship records, but that just shows them up for the idiots they are.
Let's wait to see RS values him as highly as ALL the other managers who have been at our club since he signed, I think he will and that says everything to me.

Commentators last night mentioned his great passing a few times.

You're absolutely spot on Castleblue, there's no way you can UNDERSTATE his contribution to the club!!!

Whitts just looks a little lost and jaded. Drop him for a game, maybe the manager needs to put an arm around him and find out why he's lost that spark he had as a top player.
Still got a lot of admiration for the guy.

I've seen 6 of the top 9 listed. Dwyer, Murray And Peter King are, for sure, miles ahead of Whittingham

Yes his contribution over the years has been priceless, but we need to live in the present day and not be swayed by nostalgia. He hasn't been on his game since the end of our promotion season that is why he was dropped by Malky. He is very poor off the ball and in defence. He needs a break to take stock of his recent performances and pick his standard up to where we all know he can reach.

There were 3 players last night who never stopped looking for ball, Whitts, Ravel and Fabio and in the case of Whitts and Ravel all to often the only option open to them was to pass the ball sideways or backwards.
Playing Jones by himself up front was a mistake and we needed a player like Maynard, Macheda or Le Fondre from the start for the extra movement they would have offered. That gives a player like Whitts or Ravel more options to use thier undoubted talent.
4-5-1 to start last night was a poor choice and it was only when that was changed that we looked like a team who could do something. Sadly it was to little to late.
RS like DJ likes to get the ball forward quickly and we will need players like Whitts, Ravel and Daehli to pick the passes. Whitts still has loads to offer.

I totally agree with your comments and the previous post about Whitts contribution to the club as illustrated by his Championship stats. Furthermore, I would like to point out that this has been achieved with Whitts playing out of position for a lot of that time and if he was in an AM role or CM role with both just to the left, then his stats would be even better. That was his position in 2009/10 behind Copra and Bothroyd when he scored 22 plus 10 assists in the League. He needs to be behind Guerra and Le Fondre/Maynard with a DM behind and two wingers, one drifts inside from the touchline and one who hits the byeline ( with the wingers able to swap sides).

I genuinely respect Whitts for his loyalty to the club, his commitment over the years and the great memories some of his goals conjure up... who could forget the goal vs Boro in FA Cup quarter final and the free kick vs Leicester in the play-off semi to name but two. He's a nice guy with a laid back attitude that doesn't always sit well with fans who like the players to 'show sum pashun'. However, the Whitts of yesteryear is not the Whitts of today. His form (and possibly confidence) have dipped and he needs to be dropped at least to the bench, so that he needs to work to get his place back in the team.

whits is a total confidence player if the team is not playing well he does fall apart his free kicks and his corners his whole games goes, the quicker a manager comes in for all the players looked a bit lost

Pilkington never stopped looking for the ball - I'm not sure he knows what it looks like.
The worry with Whitts is that every season he's at his best at the start of the season and steadily his form drops away as the season progresses.

BILLY HARDY IS THE TRUE RECORD HOLDER .... HE PLAYED FOR CITY WHEN NON-LEAGUE AND SMASHES DWYERS RECORD!

Whitts Whitts whitts I've watched you play many times and I've seen you play really great and really poor, think your best when you are attacking mid playing high tempo with high confidence as you do have the ability to see the killer pass but I just ain't seen enough of the best Whitts. You are our senior pro that could get us going again, time to come out of your shell and drop being poster boy and become the main man then you really can ' do what you want'.

Whittingham is a decent player and someone whos shown us loyalty and in the modern that doesn'thhappen. The hole team at mo is under achieving but overall whitts has been brilliant for us over many years.

I think it is wrong to belittle a (present) player's achievements. Witts hasn't posted this himself, it is just a stat fact.
It is true that he has suffered a dip in form (along with quite a few others!!!). However, if he is entering that period in his life where he needs to be benched for a while, so be it. Giggs and Bergkamp were tactical subs for the latter part of their careers and still made massive contributions to their clubs.
Cheers Witts, congratulations and best wishes for your future at CCFC.
