Parking at the retail park.

Thu Oct 02, 2014 10:40 am

I know it's been brought up a lot on here, but what was the outcome of people who ignored or didn't pay the parking fines.
1st time I parked in there during match day.
The thing is my mrs went shopping during the time the car was parked up there, she didn't go to the game and also moved the car twice inbetween shopping at different stores.
Don't know if we got any receipts for shopping but got proof from using debit cards.

Mate, I wouldn't worry about it. I've parked there every home game for 3 seasons and only got a ticket once (Aston Villa match in Feb). I ignored the ticket, got a couple chaser letters, ignored them too and I haven't heard anything since.

Love the f**k the man attitude there! :D

Ian is right though. If you've got proof you were shopping there at the time of the game then your presence at the game is merely coincidental. Water tight argument if you ask me.

I know you've read the MANY previous threads/posts on this subject, so you really know the answer, fella!

But let's just re-affirm that (to date) no-one has come back on this Forum screaming "They made me pay up!" to the best of my knowledge!

It's not clear if you had a ticket for your recent stay, but if you have the receipts (all of which will have sales times on them) then there cannot be an issue anyway!

Assuming you did have a ticket, just ignore it, as it has been suggested many times before that the fines are pretty much unenforceable. The parking company can only claim the monies lost on the alleged "over parking", which in the case of this particular 'free-parking' outlet is a big fat "ZERO"!!

It was always going to be a problem down there on a match day and should have been factored in properly when it was all being built!

I have had a parking ticket there, ignored it, had a chase up letter, ignored that as well, and that was that, never heard again. Just don't enter into any dialog with them, that's how they can do you by charging admin fees. They hate the people who ignore there demands as they can't do anything about them

I think they did really. That car park is massive and I have never seen it even close to being full.

My wife got a ticket there once when she went shopping and I went to the match. When I got the letter, I just binned it because any letter goes to the registered keeper and I wasn't driving at the time. As they're a private company, not the police or council, you don't have to give details of who was driving at the time.

We joined the casino a few years back and they said it's ok to park there on match day as long as you're a casino member and you use the place for a pint on match day. They also said that if we get any parking tickets to give them to the casino and they would deal with them. I was sent a parking fine after the Boro match, I took it to the casino and they said they'd sort it. A week later I received another demand, this time it had gone up from £60 to £100. I went back to the casino and they said this didn't usually happen once they'd appealed on their customers behalf. They appealed again and I haven't heard anything since. The bottom line here is that if you are a member of the casino and you swipe you're card on match day, have a pint in there etc, they can't touch you for parking in the car park , the casino assured us of this when we joined.

Had a ticket last year. Walked around the retail park for 5 minutes collecting a few receipts from the floor and the trolleys. There was at least 3 cach receipts found that covered the time for when the ticket was issued. I e-mailed the company and told them I was shopping and had the receipts. They asked me to send them as proof so I scanned one of the receipts and e mailed it off and the case was dropped. I would point out that the cheeky buggers did not write back to me informing me they had dropped the case but when I checked the ticket number on their website, it stated that the case was closed. :ayatollah:

Or did they just 'ignore' it too?? ;)

Serious thought, as it was good "customer relations" and they'd know it was unenforceable plus you did get a reminder :?

Anyone else experience anything similar??

No, the casino definitely appealed on my behalf because on the second demand the parking company stated that they'd considered the appeal and rejected it, hence the casino appealing again, which worked.

I know most people have ignored them but I know that these companies are now starting to take civil court action and that means you end up with a CCJ.

It's up to you ofcourse but the above is starting to happen, obviously this doesn't mean they will get any money from you but your credit rating will be damaged by it.

The casino is by far the best option lads. I have a young 7 year old so can't go in with him clearly, but my mate and my older son go in and these days there's an iPad on a stand in the reception, and you just simply type in your car registration number, job done !

I've had 2, I paid the 1st one reluctantly but last season my misses dropped me off and went shopping, a week later a ticket through the door with pictures of her driving the car our, It's max 2hrs stay on match day witch is pathetic. I paid that one too but really regret it now, Thieving scum bags.

Care to offer some proof on this? Sounds to me like you work for these scum.

Simple fact is they are sending you an invoice not a fine. They then would have to prove who was the driver, not the registered keeper, i.e. cctv or photos of you getting out of your vehicle. If they wanted to take you to court it would cost them considerably more than the fine would recover, not a good business model for them. Their hope is that the person is intimidated enough to pay up with no fuss, which happens a fair bit.

My mate said If you eat with that chinese restaurant above the casino, they give you a menu so you can display on your car to so show your one of their customer. Back it up with a receipt too if you need to appeal.

I ignored the letters, got dawn raided a few months later, ended up in court, got 6 months jail, lost my job, wife, and now live in a cardboard box underneath Gabalfor flyover. Ignore the tickets at your peril.

I got a fine through the other day, with photographic evidence of me entering the car park and the leaving the car park. Don't think I'm going to get away with this one if I ignore it.
What do you think?
