Had a drink at the Nin, aka Maverick's last night. Was told the sad news that Brains is to pull the plug on the place, having given the staff just 2 weeks notice. Will be turned into a Chinese restaurant. I expect it is too late to get any campaign to keep it open now. After all, not just bad news for the staff there, but it means the last drinking stop before the CCS will be gone!
Many fond memories of the place, as I'm sure most City fans also have. I've always found the staff to be amazingly friendly. They told me they're planning to have a bit of a closing party this Saturday at the last home game before it closes. Here are a couple of pictures I took of the staff, including the manager, Eric, last night:

It has no future as a bar (obviously) or for food retail in my opinion. I think in time it will end up as a solicitor's office / health centre / insurance brokers... that kind of thing.
I haven't been home for nearly 6 years, however if I were able to be there I would not miss one final opportunity to have a beer in the "Nin' "

I wouldn't even say that mate, with all the land in the car park best to knock it down and start again. I see the Neville is going the same way too

If you are talking about the Sixties it would have been the other Ninian which was situated back by the lights, i think this one was built around about the late seventies early eighties, why they had to change the name was a mystery to me and no doubt thousands of other fans that had used that pub over the years , i suppose it was because of the new ground . Very sorry to see it going but if i'm honest i never looked at that pub the same after the name change, it was iconic to all of us.

We can blame Labour for all the pubs closing. First they get rid of the licensing laws which have been in place for decades and only allowed for new liquor licences or taxi licences when the population increases got above a certain figure ( a formula was used allowing x number per 1000 population, which usually equated to 6 taxi licenses. I'm not sure on the figures for liquor licenses). This resulted in a massive increase in the number of restaurants which compete with the pubs. Then through the Green Party influence in Germany, the EU and Labour adopted the smoking ban and the result is that 7 licensed premises close every day in the UK. The irony is that because of job losses Germany reversed their smoking ban about 2 years ago. Also, this law doesn't apply to politicians as they have a room in the Welsh Assembly and in Westminster for security reasons. Therefore, if you want to socialise with a pint and a smoke you'd better become a politician or put up with the wind, rain and the cold.
