New Cardiff City Blog

Tue Sep 23, 2014 2:10 pm

Alright chaps. Thought you guys might be interested in a new blog I'm putting together.

I had sent off an unfinished book I'd been writing to Parthian Books, entitled "Sad Crew: The Inside Story of the Ordinary Cardiff City Fan" You know how people have been talking for ages (maybe as a joke) that wasn't it time someone wrote the book about the "normal" fan? Well, this was going to be it.

Anyway, Parthian got back to me and asked if instead I'd like to keep a blog of the current season, so here it is! Just four reports, plus an about page so far. There should be one following the Bournemouth match. Hope you enjoy it. Feedback welcome. Note, this has not yet officially "gone live" - Parthian are going to back it with some publicity, supposedly - so this is a kind of sneak preview:

I hope you make it clear that these are your views alone and do not represent other CCFC fans views or mine.

Examples - "One of the battles Annis has won has been convincing by far the majority of Cardiff fans not to support the rebrand". - I made up my own mind about the rebrand being a really bad move.

"And it’s no use forever pointing the finger at Tan (who no longer comes to watch now that Cardiff are no longer in the Premiership, so you couldn’t directly point a finger at him, even if you wanted to) – the atmosphere was bad even before his arrival at the club." - Not True, in my opinion.

I'm not having a go mate, well done for having a go.

Here's something you wrote that I do agree with - "But I don’t just blame the fans, the team, the stadium, what’s going on at the club, or any of that. In the time I had to reflect on life in general, it occurred to me that maybe this is just the way things are going, maybe the tradition of football as a live spectacle is dying out?"

Hi mate. Thanks for feedback. I agree, there are parts that probably need reworking. It's not meant to represent everybody's views. I'm no expert. To be honest, the main idea of the blog is not to give factual, news type articles about the club, but more personal accounts of how I see things, so yes, definitely not meant to represent all fans, but like I say, there are definitely still things I might go back and change.

My blog is more opinion based, as yours seems to be, though I would agree with Powys that I wasn't swayed by Annis (as much of a good job as he does) but just a sense of moral and historical importance.

You're right about the athmos though... it's been dead at CCS for some time. Because of my little boy I don't go to away matches (and can't afford to get down CCS too often either... kids take money, who knew) but I hear the athmosphere from the Cardiff fans is much better.

Whenever I go down CCS I'm usually in the Ninian stand, just to get the best view for both halves, and it's pretty darn quiet... the only singing ever seems to come from the Canton stand and I'll be buggered if I can get anybody to sing along when I'm there..

Possibly that's just because we're not doing so well, we're not blue, and we ARE blue... I just think it;s even more important to step up and sing now while our club needs the 12th man...

it's easy to sing when you're winning

Cheers mate. I'll keep my eye on your blog - hadn't seen it before. The current situation doesn't help, of course, but you're right - that's only more reason for the need of the 12th man :ayatollah:

I've written about the 12th man, and how we are needed now more than ever...

It's really easy to be all cheery and support the team when you're 3-2 up at Man City... but when we're 4-0 down at Sunderland... the fans have to step up. It;s hard. god knows it's hard. but it has to be done.

Latest piece from last night, including memories of the Ninian Park pub, plus those Cardiff fans who tried to give some singing lessons!
