Slade - Not the worst thing that could happen

Tue Sep 23, 2014 11:18 am

In my Monday Tea blog this week, the topic of Russell Slade came up, among other things... He's bookie's favourite to come over... though it looks like he might have to quite first.

I don't think he'd be the worst thing that could happen to us, to be honest. I know he hasn't managed at "our level" but last year he only narrowly missd out on getting Orient promoted to the Championship (missing out just on penalties).
Manager of the month and year awards... ok they were won in a lower league but I don't think we should discount them entirely. And by a few accounts from O fans he's a decent manager, takes no crap and who's probably only on his way out because  their club's been taken over by a foreign businessman who wants to bring in his own staff

What do you think? I will definitely be supporting whichever new manager we get in anyway... but I don't think he'd be the worst thing to happen to us in recent years :old: Could save us from sliding further down the table at least?!

I dont understand what the big issue with signing RS up, he has been quoted as having exceptional man management skills, which OGS didnt have and we desperately need.

I think he would be perfect for us, mid 50s, consistantly successful in league one on a budget, prob ready to step up. and most importantly cheap...

This is what I'm talking about.

to be honest I think the BIG problem most people have with RS really boils down to "He's not Pulis". All i;ve seen from Orient fans is how they're happy with him, he saved them from relegation. narrowly missed out on the championship (on bloody penalties!!) and though he's not got experience "at our level" he does have years of managerial experience in itself, specifically man management, as you mentioned which is something we really could do with...

but... he's not Pulis... moan moan moan :old:

I thought Lennon would be our best bet, but I've come around to the idea of Slade now and would support him and his appointment. Plus I can't wait to welcome him with a rousing rendition of cum on feel the noize from the canton stand.

The problem is that he may well do well but he has no experience at this level. The club state that they need instant promotion or face financial difficulties. Are you confident that he is going to get us promoted this season? It is too much of a gamble. Ole was a gamble and it did not pay off. You think that something would have been learnt from that but clearly not! You cannot beat experience. :bluescarf:

ANYBODY is going to be a gamble. At least RS has had years of managerial experience and is lauded by LO fans

I would suggest that it is a far less gamble with Pulis, Hughton, Clarke, Sherwood, etc. they have been there and done it and I am not talking about Div 1! You cannot beat experience at Championship/premiership level. The last thing you want is to take another gamble, if it does not pay off and next summer we will be looking for another manager in this or a lower Division.

I think whoever is appointed is a gamble. You can't arrive at a club with much better credentials than Louis van Gaal. I assume everyone thought he would guarantee success. You can't arrive at a club with much worse credentials than Jimmy Scoular when he came here. Absolutely no way of knowing who will do the best job here until someone is given the opportunity.
