Leyton Orient Chief Exec tells Sky that they rejected Slade's request to allow him to speak to us

Cardiff City will continue their pursuit of Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade despite the League One club rejecting THREE requests from the Bluebirds and Slade himself to hold talks.

Slade is desperate to join Cardiff after owner Vincent Tan identified him as his number one target to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Orient chief executive Matt Porter revealed on Monday evening Slade and City had been rebuffed in their attempts to prize him away from Brisbane Road, but WalesOnline understands that will not be the end of negotiations.

It is likely Porter's public statement on the approach for Slade is part of the negotiating process as Orient attempt to secure their desired amount of compensation.

And, in another twist, we have been told current interim coach Scott Young is in line to be Slade's assistant if and when a deal is thrashed out.

Young was drafted in alongside fellow club legend Danny Gabbidon to steady the the ship in the wake of Solskjaer's departure having impressed in his role as an academy coach in the Welsh capital.

Gabbidon is likely to revert a player-coach role when the new manager is in place.

Agreed. Proves we have approached him if that's the case, putting to bed what 'Staff' said.

I can see him still coming here. A bit strange to keep a manager whose on the verge of the sack

His hilarious. They were about to sack him about a week ago and now he is probably categorised as indespensable just because a higher division team are interested.

It doesn't make a difference if they turn our approach down because this will annoy slade and he will resign and come to us.

Why oh why don't the club go and appoint a manager with experience who is available to walk straight into the job!

Pulis, Hughton, Clarke, Lennon, Sherwood to name just a few. No gamble!

It must be money.

yes i know and its very frustrating not knowing anything and obvious targets are not being considered,! but saying that pulis or lennon are not right for long term developement, very confusing though as tan wants instant return to premier, even tan cant have his cake and eat it. :old:

Annis,

On the initial news of Slade being talked about as a possible CCFC manager, I was of the opinion that it was potty !!

But having read up on him, listening to others comments and trawling the O's forum - I definitely changed my opinion on his manager skills.

Now having watched his short interview with BBC he seems "keen as mustard" and very proud to have been linked with us - now that attitude is very good for us - He seems like a manager with spirit and lets face it most lower league managers have been through tough times and taken the knockbacks, etc.

I doubt he would be the type to be bullied by Tan and also he must know (like the whole of the UK) what Tan's reputation is already.

Could be a grounded appointment - we need some stability now.

I dislike Tan for all the shit he has foisted upon us but we need a stable leader in the dugout.

Maybe, as a few have said, he just has not made the upper leagues by chance - his form looks ok to me.

In fact maybe a better appointment than someone looking at a big payday before anything else.

You are having a laugh. All 3 that you have named have Premiership exoerience. Hughton has taken teams up from the Championship and Sherwood has turned Premiership jobs down! I know what I would prefer, experience rather than gambling again and staying in the depths of the Football League. Too much of a gamble to experiment with an unproven manager at Championship/ Premiership level.

Good post  agree with you! Interview that man and listen to what he wants to do. This is his shot at the big time and his record suggests he's earned it. It's a better story than giving jobs to ex UTD players
