I did and this is no bullshit.
I only live 15 minutes bus drive from the Derby ground. We were only 5 minutes into the journey, still in Derby, when I heard some woman ask someone if they were alright. This was happening behind me so I look around and saw a guy, must be in his late 60s, have an epileptic fit.
The guy was totally tort and we were not getting a response from him. Obviously some will say but at the time we all just wanted to hear something from him. I got out of my seat and went to sit next to the guy. The guy was frantically convulting spitting out of his mouth. I asked the girl to call 999 and at the same time undid his top button. I did notice his collar was tight against his neck but though nothing of it at the time.
As the girl called 999 she ordered the driver to stop the bus. Before I could undo the top button the bus had come to a stop and we found ourselves in some backstreet. The girl on the phone was telling the 999 person where we were. She had to ask the driver as she was not from Derby. At the same time she was telling me via the 999 what to do. I wont go into what the orders were from her but she was very calm and clear in her instructions. That made it very easy for me to do what I had to do.
We ordered everyone of the bus except one very old guy who I noticed when he got on the bus struggled with a walking stick to get to his seat. I told him he could stay as we waited for the paramedic. It was another 5 minutes before the medic turned up.
In that 5 minutes the guy gave another convulsion and fell into a position that looked like from the an outsider walking by he was sleeping. The girl and I thought different so I checked his pulse before checking his breathing. I should have done it the other way but I could not feel a pulse. Before trying recusitation I realized I forgot to check the breathing. I put my palm under his nose to see if I could feel any breathing. He then gave another convulsion which scared the living daylights out of me. He then started to come around so we started to talk to him. Within a minute of his last convulsion he was sitting up ok. I decided to leave him with the girl and joined the guys off the bus.
I watched as the paramedic came down the road. I look at the guy from the pavement and he looked fine now. I had images of the paramedic getting on the bus and going straight to the guy with the walking stick. It was another 10 minutes before an ambulance appeared and took the guy away.
When the bus was allowed to carry on its journey I had to give my mobile number to the driver. I received a phone call an hour ago from the bus company who gave me an update. The guy had a history of these fits and had a weakness around his neck elements. I must admit at first I was surprised how thick his neck was considering he was a guy of very slim build. Apparently I was told the bus company were ask by the hospital to pass onto me my action to undo his collar most likely saved his life.
Personally the way the girl conducted the 999 call had more to do with it. As I was in my Cardiff City coat and by off chance the girl saw it and as by any chance you are browsing this site I just want to say what a star you were.
