Gabbidon: " Lack of black bosses "
Sunday 21st September 2014
Danny Gabbidon: In temporary charge of Cardiff City
Danny Gabbidon does not see why there cannot be more black managers in the game after taking joint temporary charge of Cardiff.
The veteran defender was put in joint caretaker charge with Scott Young following previous boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure and the pair oversaw a 2-2 draw with Derby on Saturday.
Gabbidon became a cult hero during his five years with the Bluebirds between 2000 and 2005 and re-joined the club earlier this month to combine playing with defensive coaching duties.
If he was to land a permanent managerial role in the future, he would join former Charlton boss Chris Powell, who recently took over at Huddersfield, as the only black managers across the top four English divisions.
The 35-year-old, who is now preparing the Cardiff team for Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash with Bournemouth, told the Sunday Mirror: “Chris did well at Charlton and you wonder why not more black managers are coming into the game.
“It’s 2014, with equal opportunities, so I don’t see why that can’t be.”

If Gabs took over I wouldn't complain.

I don't like this 'lack of black managers' business... If a black person was good enough, they'd be in management, simple as that!

Correct Cal, its not about colour or where you are from, you are given jobs on your own merit, you earn the Titles/Possitions

Paul Ince is black, Roy Keane isn't, but one thing they have in common both shit managers. Class players rarely make it.

Exactly !
There has been a few and most have failed , Paul ince , Jean tigana , Ruud gullit , Keith curle come to mind and they have all had opportunities
The one who has done well Chris Powell is normally in work
Nothing to do with colour it's all about wether they are capable of doing the job , maybe most just don't want to be managers ?

It's the fact they claim black managers deserve the chance at good jobs which bugs me, when in fact they're not even good!

the problem is high up in most boards its still a old and white dinosour enviroment it will change within 20-30 years like the rest of this country it will be half muslim and ethnic
Sun Sep 21, 2014 2:19 pm
Not enough Australian managers either
Sun Sep 21, 2014 2:25 pm
Don't become a Sol Campbell/Jason Roberts figure now Gabbs please, the reason there isn't any black bosses is either they're not applying or just don't want a major role.
Ince is a shit manager, that's the reason he's unemployed

Sorry, don't agree - same reason I would be against all women shortlists or the black police officers association (yes this really exists) - (why dont we have a yellow with pink spots police association FFS) - we are all human with equal status and we all have the same opportunities to get on in life, you have just got to work for them.

This is a tricky one.
I'm all for merit based appointments and certainly against discrimination of all kinds INCLUDING POSITIVE DISCRIMINATION! You can't have it all ways. Either you want people to be appointed on merit or you don't. There are plenty of people of all colours in the English Leagues. They are called players. These players are definitely paid on merit according to market forces. Many star players get more than their managers so to call managers top jobs is a bit deceiving.
Gabs has a point but you can't dictate to clubs who they should select. It isn't a black issue for me, it's a foreign one. How many of the best managers are not British? Plenty!
I agree with the poster who said he hopes Gabs doesn't become Sol Cambell. Better to ask why we don't have a black Prime Minister (or non-white for that matter).
I sincerely hope Gabs isn't trying to pave the way for his own appointment in future. It's unbecoming for a gent of his caliber.
What we need is the best manager. I don't care if he's purple with green swirls if he can get results!!

I think it's a bit more complicated than that. But there are successfull black managers and unsuccessfully black mangers just as there are white ones.
Frank rijkard did well at Barcelona btw.

http://www.tidesport.org/RGRC/2013/2013_NBA_RGRC.pdfREPORT HIGHLIGHTS
• African-Americans comprised 76.3 percent of all NBA players. Eighty-one percent of players were players of color.
• African-American head coaches represented 43.3 percent of all NBA head coaches, the second highest percentage in NBA history.
----
81% of players are PoC and yet over 50% of coaches are white.
Also, not that it needs saying. Short people play basketball en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shortest_players_in_National_Basketball_Association_history

Don't know why people are getting upset by Gabbs' comment. I don't know the exact stats but I would guess that at least 25% of footballers are black yet only 2 black managers at the moment which works out at around 2%. On the basis that black people are just as good as white people and have the same level of potential in the field of management it would suggest that there is some form of discrimination going on in the boardrooms of our 92 clubs. How else would you explain those figures?

It was satire mate. Wanted to highlight the steriotypical "ideal" basketball player. Didn't mean any offence.

This annoys me - lack of black managers or its like politics, lack of women in politics or lack of women in the boardroom.

He should only be given the job if he can do it not because he is Black. Is he trying to get the job on the race card or on his ability ?
