' Latest on City Management team/ I heard today '

Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:24 pm

Today a meeting has taken place between Cooper DJ and Dalmon with Tan on Video link. Coops has been provided with a private jet to take him back to Switzerland from Luton airport.
Young is being lined up as Coops assistant and both DJ and Coops have highly recommended Terry Burton for the Coaches role.
And DJ is being offered the DOF position.

Terry Burton highly respected in the footballing world. I'm sure he's contracted to West Brom though at the moment if I'm not mistaken? (Worked at Arsenal at one point since his departure from Cardiff)

To be honest, I'd be OK with this. Cooper has worked with the U21s so if any of the first teamers were to depart he'd know first hand on which ones were ready to make the step up.

Would be ok with DJ as DOF to offer help in transfers(although we must start using a wage structure, we are in a better position since DJ's last tenure here in terms of wages but we can't make the same mistake again)

Young as an assistant would be a nice touch, with Burton as an experienced figurehead to offer help to Coops and Young. Any plans for any other coaches with City connections?

Yes I hear this yesterday, want Cooper I stand to win a few quid as got a few bets with odds of 28/1 and 33/1. If they give him the job with buy you and Carl a few pints. Also know somebody at the club that's managed put a Oner on him yesterday at 33/1.

Am I misreading this?

If DJ is Director of Football then we will have a Coach not a manager.

So if Cooper is Coach with Young as his assistant why is Burton also being suggested as coach?

That's two head coaches.

Burton as coach is the only good thing in this statement

Well that's a good start then. Burton and DJ have a long standing relationship so it could work well

This is bonkers! Not what we need at all right now. This has relegation written all over it.

Burton was the one who coached while DJ was playing golf

Would be a very disappointing outcome. At thus time we need a quality manager with Championship/ Premiership experience rather than taking a gamble on managers/ coaches untested at this level. As for DJ, rarely does a re appointment work out.

Why aren't the club looking at the quality managers who are out there at the moment who could take the club forward. Managers with experience at Championship/Premiership level:e.g. Pulis, Hughton, Sherwood, Lennon, Clarke, Di Matteo, Take your pick! Oh yeah, this is Cardiff City though!

The bookies seem to be aware of the Cooper possibility. He's at 4/1 now.

Russell Slade 4/5
Tony Pulis 4/1 - Already seems to have been ruled out
Kevin Cooper 4/1
Neil Lennon 6/1
Dave Jones 10/1 - Likely to be DoF

That leaves Slade, Cooper and Lennon.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Scott Young in the mix too.

THIS!!!!!! Why are we looking at Slade, Hartley, Cooper and Young and discounting the experienced, proven, managers who are available? These appointments have relegation written all over them. Who is advising Tan? It's complete madness!

Spot on. Why oh why is it always our club. We took the gamble with Ole and it did not work out. Why not play safe and appoint one of the obvious 'stand out' candidates. Fulham for example, see to be linked with all of the stand out candidates. Instead we are looking at Hartley, Slade or from within! No ambition!

This is unreal and ridiculous!

If this is true, it looks like the owner is trying to accommodate people he has had contact with and has some trust in rather than getting the best possible person who fits the bill. Has DJ told the owner that he doesn't want to be a manager? So VT has created the DOF role? Just to have him at the club? If so that then leads to the inexperienced appointments of Cooper and Young. IMO, the job should go to an experienced manager like Pulis, the situation is crying out for a strong individual to put some stability and focus through to the players, if we have any chance of going for promotion this year.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sam Hammam is giving VT a lot of advice here

Not my first choice but I think this would work. Terry burton is very experienced and well respected in the game, he'd offer similar to that of say Steve Clarke. DJ is always going to divide opinion but at least the man has experience and knows this league very well. The most important thing is that management team need to be able to work well with tan and Dalman. Time is not our side, we need to get this season back on track fast and this proposed management team might just do that.

Not for me, looks like more angles and dynamics that we don't need. Just get a strong experienced manager in

The only thing with the burton rumour that does not quite fit is that he just taken the technical director role at West Brom. He's only been in the job a few months, would the draw of being head coach at Cardiff make him jump ship so soon into his new job? Obviously money talks and the Cardiff job would offer a higher profile but would he want to come and would west Brom let him go? I'm not adversed to the idea burton being head coach, I think it could work. At 28/1 with skybet it's worth a punt!

The reason he knows this league well is because he couldn't get out of it

I can't see how this is an improvement on the previous set up. Sounds more like a money saving exercise :(

All this sounds depressing. How anyone can suggest Hughton who was in the Ole class as a failure at Norwich is beyond me. If we have to resort to grumpyguts as DOF, I think they could do worse (and I am sure they will) go for Edinburgh as coach.
