Our captain

Thu Sep 18, 2014 9:15 pm

Whoever our new manager is I hope he realises we need a captain who can lead and not a goal keeper. I watched the game on Tuesday and Gunnarson was brilliant when he came on, constantly talking to the players around him and shouting instructions - I hope he gets it. Thoughts please

I'm not keen on goalkeeper as captain either

Same need an outfield player not a goalkeeper as captain

I'm sure Marshall is a fantastic influence for the squad as a whole, but on the pitch we need someone outfield to take the role.

Perhaps something similar to Plymouth Argyle have, with the goalkeeper as club captain and central defender in as team captain?

Whoever is the new manager will have to go with what is at the club at the moment as our captain.

I think we might have to wait for the Jan transfer window to find his real captain ( IMO ).

We have players who are captain material - gunners, Morrison, magna just need to play one of them regularly

A goalkeeper is not the right player to be Captain, they are too far away from play, and if their not the team is having a bad day at the office. If he is a good influence then make him club captain, he can always speak to the team captain during the game.

We want a player who is vocal and can read the game, just as Hudson did. Gunnarson has Captained Iceland and therefore would not be new to the role.

I said the same a couple of weeks back. A goalkeeper captain is not the best option because they are so isolated.

With regards Gunnarson, he would be the last person I would like to see as captain. I do not consider him good enough to be an automatic choice for City. He gives the ball away far too often and commits far too many fouls.

I'd agree with the point made about gunnarson he really looked like our captain when he come on,I'd play him every week as captain with adeyemi or dikgacoi as the other sitting midfielder, this would give us a experienced captain and a pair of tough tacklers in midfield which we need

I agree.

our captain needs to be in the center, around the ref to keep him honest, just like Boro, their captain was in the middle of the park most of the night giving the ref grief, at one point I thought he was making the decisions and not the ref.... (sorry for the tangent there lol)

but yes, our captain should be sat in the middle of the park, Gunnarson would make an excellent captain

100% agree that the captain should be a centre half or midfielder near the action.

However, no way on this earth should Guunarson be captain. I wouldn't put him anywhere near the team . He is not one of our top performers and is not guaranteed a place. He no longer gas his long throw, he is slow, he gives the ball away far too often and he commits endless fouls (particularly on goalkeepers). He cost us a few goals last year (e.g. Fulham/spurs) because of that and he could have cost us the Caulker goal against Swansea.

He is not good enough to start in the first 11 especially considering the squad we have.

Gotta be a midfielder or a defender I reckon. Manga is a good shout, but he's new. Perhaps Whitingham/Gunnarsson is a good idea as they play regularly.
