' Tan has a plan '

Thu Sep 18, 2014 7:47 pm

Tan Sri Vincent wants a football advisor that reports directly to him and you will find that when the new manager is announced there will also be a director of football or similar above the new manager.

The owner wants this position created at the club and Dave Jones will be spoken to about the role.

Reports that Dundee manager Paul Hartley has ruled himself out of the running are incorrect, chairman Mehmet Dalman has spoken to the agent of Hartley and was told that his client is happy at Dundee but has not ruled out a move.

Good Dave Jones won't be the manager. :ayatollah:

That will rule Pulis out. Crazy thing is if he was manager Tan wouldn't need a D of F

This is probably a sign that Tan wants more control over the style of football we play!

It's a shit plan.

It's the plan of a control freak who hasn't got a clue about football.

It's a plan missing two words...... Tony Pulis.

After the failure of Ole chosen by the the football visionary that is Mehmet Dalman, it is totally understandable that Tan would like a D.O.F who understands the game, what the club needs, keeping up with trends, establishing a clear philosophy at the club etc. better 3 years late than never. At least the egos have been shattered and the club can now move forward.

Tongue in the cheek, basically saying he wants to be more involved in the football side of things, otherwise he wouldn't need a DoF to report to him!

Seems a bit odd to do this now. If Tan wants promotion this season then he needs a banker, like McCarthy, Warnock, probably Pulis maybe Hughton. Not an untested manager, an untested DoF and a squad neither of them built.

Why doesn't he just cut out the middle man and appoint himself as manager.

I have to agree! The smart move would of been to have employed D.O.F when Tan bought the club to advise him, and work with. He chose not to, and now you are right, this is Ole's squad that needs a strong character with experience to sort out.

Even after all these years I still don't know what a Director of a football actually does. In Redknapps book when he was first brought in as Director of football at Portsmouth he says that he didn't know what it was as he was standing around most of the time!!!

I think it can only work in special cases. VT needed one, like a football interpreter as football to him is still like me listening to 2 Greek waiters

Edit: worked extremely well at Southampton with the Italian who recently left. He oversaw the youth system, and scouting, staff recruitment.

We have a great opportunity to start a legacy at Cardiff by appointing the right manager.
I've no doubt we will let it pass us by.

Cardiff City rookies Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon could be given the chance to continue leading Bluebirds

Friday Sep 19th 2014

By Chris Wathan

WalesOnline understands club chiefs are not ruling out the possibility of them continuing beyond Saturday's trip to Derby

Cardiff City could yet give Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon the chance to show they could make their move into management permanent, WalesOnline understands.

Club chiefs are not ruling out the possibility of the popular duo continuing in the roles if they impress after being thrust into the spotlight following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure.

Former defender Young and recently returned player-coach Gabbidon were the surprise choice to take temporary charge of the Bluebirds at Derby County on Saturday. The pair, whose only frontline managerial experience comes via Young’s time in charge of Welsh Premier side Port Talbot, will be in the dugout as the team look to arrest their slide down the Championship table.

It is thought the former players were told they would be overseeing first team duties after Dundee’s Paul Hartley turned down a surprise approach to replace Solskjaer after initial suggestions of a swift appointment.

However, with Cardiff now reassessing their options as they try and identify a “young and hungry” boss, the Bluebirds are not ruling out the prospect of the duo continuing in the roles beyond this weekend.

The news comes after bookies’ favourite Tony Pulis distanced himself from the job, while former Cardiff star Craig Bellamy tonight ruled himself out of contention.

Ex-Bluebirds boss Dave Jones remains one of the favourites in the betting having been sounded out about a director of football role before the decision to appoint Solskjaer.

Club sources have initially indicated Jones is not in the frame for the manager's job this time around but he could yet come into the picture in an advisory role if Tan opts to introduce a director of football to oversee an inexperienced coach.
