Vacuum caught from fire

Thu Sep 18, 2014 1:21 pm

Literally my vacuum caught fire yesterday and I was wondering if anyone has experienced that and if their carpet was damaged by the fire if they managed to claim anything off the vacuum cleaners company (vax) for instance. Or if it's a home insurance job.

Not sure how to upload a photo of the vacuum actually on fire from my phone but if someone lets me know how then I will for everyone else's amusement.

Would have thought that providing vacuum cleaner is not ancient and as long as you haven't had to carry out any repairs on it, you should contact the manufacturer for advice. They will almost certainly want to examine it, so don't throw it out. Most contents policies cover fire, flood and theft as standard. You should also contact them so that they are aware of what is going on if you intend making a claim.

How exactly did it catch fire? I had a Dyson catch fire once but that was my own fault for trying to be clever by sucking up the ashes from the fire grate before they had really cooled down enough and of course they reignited while spinning at whatever speed those things go at.

They will deny any responsibility and try to sweep it under the carpet, let the dust settle then take them to the cleaners. ;)

You could 'pick up' some compensation.
