A statement is being prepared by Cardiff owner Vincent Tan and that is likely to outline reasons for Solskjaer's expected departure.
"The situation is amicable and, while results have clearly played a part - for which Solskjaer has taken full responsibility - this primarily comes down to differing philosophies.
"The approach to Paul Hartley is understood to have been a phone call to his agent, but he was not offered the job."
