Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Cardiff City boss likely to leave

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to leave the club after less than nine months in charge.

Solskjaer, 41, has held talks with chairman Mehmet Dalman on Wednesday.

An announcement on the Norwegian's future is expected on Thursday, as details of his departure are finalised.

The Bluebirds are 17th in the Championship after three losses in seven games, including Tuesday's 1-0 home defeat by Middlesbrough and a 4-2 capitulation against Norwich.

The former Manchester United striker took over from Malky Mackay on 2 January, but failed to save City from Premier League relegation.
After the latest defeat, the Norwegian said he accepted the blame for the club's poor run of form.

"I'm responsible and I should get better results than what we've had in the first seven games," said Solskjaer.
His team were booed off the pitch at half time and at the end of the game against Middlesbrough.

Their poor display drew criticism from former Bluebirds striker Nathan Blake, who described the players as "inept".

"There was nothing there," said Blake. "Cardiff were just devoid of ideas and confidence.

"The fans were on their backs and you could see certain players weren't up for the fight."

Whoever replaces Ole, we need someone with experience and who can motivate the players. We certainly have enough good players, but creating a team spirit is essential.

Thanks for the efforts Ole. You are a lovely sincere man. Sad it's not worked out. All the best for the future. :bluescarf: :ole:

Thank god for that. Credit for being decisive now. It may make the difference between playoffs and automatic.

Pulis is the only man for the job. Anyone else and I will be a bit gutted apart from people like Jose, Pep etc

Bye bye Ole. I've said you were Shite since day 1. The loss against West Ham last season at home really pissed me off.

The bloke is clueless. Go back to Norway and good luck.

Thanks for your efforts OLE and I hope you can chalk this unhappy experience down to life and it's rich tapestry. This was just the wrong club at the wrong time and I'm sure you will go on to be a success elsewhere.

You remind me of another ex city manager Jimmy Andrews a quiet and thoroughly dignified man but a football through and through.

Good luck for the future.

Hope not or thats us fooked for this season, no way can he turn this around, in fact the opposite. Leave it another month and someone will have a relagation fight to get out of and not a promotion challenge. New man will have hard enough job to get us to top six as it is. :bluescarf: Someone posted yesterday that only two teams have gone up automatically from our position before last nights game in the last decade!

Yea i think a decision needs to be made now, because we are already 8 points behind which does not sound like much, but a) we need to keep winning and b) need the few teams in automatic promotion to lose a good few.

That rules Dave Jones out of the running.

Bit gutted Ole hasn't worked out. I think he has bought well (though probably too big a squad), and they have shown flashes in the first half on Saturday what they could have become. With a bit of a lucky run of wins, the side would have settled, and new players gelled, and a number of the players would have grown with confidence. Tough start, and we have fallen apart. Pullis is probably the man, but ironically he would probably have preferred Malkys squad. Kenwyn is one who definitely wouldn't be happy with Pullis, and I can see this squad being ripped apart.
Should we give Ole longer? Not sure he is confident he can turn it around. Also we would lose Pullis for the second time.

Cardiff City set to show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit door -

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s brief spell as Cardiff City manager was on the brink of ending last night, with the Norwegian’s departure from the struggling Championship club set to be announced today.

Tony Pulis was last night installed as the early favourite to replace Solskjaer, just weeks after he walked out on Crystal Palace on the eve of the Premier League season.

Pulis’s success with Stoke City – taking them into the Premier League and keeping them there – and then last season with Crystal Palace, whom he comfortably saved from relegation, mark him out as a strong candidate should the controversial Cardiff owner, Vincent Tan, be able to convince him to take over.
