Mats Daelhi

Wed Sep 17, 2014 2:08 pm

What an underwhelming player he has become, the high hopes of him being the star in the Champ have gone away, Blackburn away I remember saying after the game that this is what we will get. The boy needs to get on the weights and bulk up a bit.

Like Kim when he had the performances before we secured promotion.

He was at fault yesterday for the only goal of the game, s**t out of a 50/50 let the player spread the ball to Adomah.

Agree he's been disappointing... I thought with him on the one wing and noone on the other we would be running full backs all over the place..

Be nice to get noone back...

Be a breath of fresh air to see someone pick up the ball and run at people with speed.

I can't be the only one to notice Daelhi s**t out of the challenge for the goal though?

Couldn't believe when he bottled that challenge and your spot on it cost us the goal. If it had been Whitts people would have been dishing out pelters.

Daelhi looks to have bags of potential but we have better options like Harris if we are looking for a wideman, at least with Harris he has the pace to worry defenders. Both are young players but in my opinion Harris has more about him in the wide role.

Bang on the money, Whitts would have been chased out of Cardiff by our fans if it was him.

If Daelhi thought he wasn't gonna win the 50/50 then at least just put pressure on him, everyone high up the pitch it's the first thing on your mind if your closest to the ball is to close the man down to stop the counter or take him out and take a booking.

I wouldn't mind seeing Harris introduced off the bench for a home game if we are 3-0 (2-0 is dangerous we know this). Harris evidently looks very strong and can see he's bulked up.. we lack strength.

Re: Mats Daelhi

No excuses for pulling out of a 50/50 - criminal.

However like many I think he's being played out of position and should be playing the no.10 role behind the striker/strikers like he does from what I can see for Norway.

He's not a winger, but then nor is Macheda and he seems to be shoved out left the last two games!

If Ole can find a space for him in a central attacking midfield position he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet, but if that's not viable then he shouldn't start, esepcially when we have true wingers at the club.

I'd get him in as I think he's got bags of ability and play him behind Guerra with Noone on one wing and A.N.Other on the other wing (I'd even be tempted to give Kadeem a chance).

Have two holding mids (possibly Gunnar and Adeyemi - even though he didn't cover himself in glory last night) and a back 4 of Brayford, Fabio, Cala who I thought played well last night & presumably Manga - leave them form a partnership.

Stop rotating, get the formation and tactics right, become difficult to beat and go from there. The players we have are good enough, Ole just needs to realise this and motivate them to get them playing to their full potential.

I'm as despondent as the next man currently but it's amazing what a couple of wins can do for confidence and potentially re-define the whole season. :ayatollah:

Harris is positive in his play and always looks to attack.. Certainly deserves to be in the match day squad.. Will add the width we need.. He can't perform any worse that what some have done so far...

That goal was a shocker.. We committed all into the defenders into the area and the delivery was awful, daehli should ave closed down, as the final ball came into the box though whitts was standing there off kike, should av got closer to him and forced a challenge.

Whitts put in 2 fantastic blocks in the 2nd half to keep us in the game but still some people give him pelters, he also fouled one of thier players on the halfway line to stop them breaking on us. I thought he would get booked for the challenge, he didn't, but he showed he will take one for the team if he has to.

Daehli is still young and maybe it will take time for the more cynical aspects of the game to resonate in him. If the gossip is right and Pulis does become our manager he better get on the weights and get in touch with the cynical aspects of the game quickly or he may find himself on the sidelines.

Me neither, i really like him as a player and think he can be really good for us.
He is only a kid, he played some good games and some poor ones this season, like most players in our team, when did we get this fickle that we attack our youngsters on the back of a few underwhelming performances? I hate the way Declan was hung out to dry after the last game too.
Both of these lads have a bright future and decided to stay with us when we went down unlike some of our players from last season.
And why are we comparing Daehli to these older players? Whitts is effin 30 years old, most fans expect more from a seasoned older player then they do with someone who is still in school… Kim is what? 25? Been here for a couple of years now, lack of good performances is pattern for a few seasons now.
I didn't like the way whitts was booed last season but for Dando to suggest Daehli should be chased out of town for that is pathetic. Kind of thing that could ruin a talented young players confidence.

I totally agree with you. Declan didn't know what day of the week it was when he came off the pitch on Saturday! But did he get any help off Macheda? Did he f**k.

Left Back is a huge problem - as Connoly found out last night. He's not a full back, Boro knew this and Adomah roasted him - but again did Macheda give him any help? Did he f**k.

Coming up through the ranks Declan always played midfield/wing - he is not a full back which is proved when he looks a different player going forward to what he does when he has to defend.

I've seen enough of the youngsters to suggest many of them could have a great future if nutured and developed correctly. The last thing we should be doing is booing them out of town.

Re: Mats Daelhi

Wed Sep 17, 2014 5:29 pm

He definitely has to Bulk up but I believe when we start playing him behind the Strikers he will offer a lot more. Hes a luxury player the only position he can then go in the Championship is behind the Striker. And I agree whittingham has been decent in the past. However he can't beat the front man from any set plays last night and the only touches he gets is when he drops that deep he could be seen as a Centre Back.

This has been one of the biggest disappointments for me player wise. I thought he'd tear apart and piss all over the championship. As per usual Ole hasn't played him in his right position but very let down by his performances. :sad7:

Oh come on mun, you open a thread to bash this kid you are suggesting its his fault we lost the game, as if there weren't 10 other players on the pitch, that didn't also not step up to the challenge. You are making out like he is some kind of experienced player that should be expected to turn in good performances week after week.
He is inconsistent like most players that age and he is still hasn't quite got to grips with the physicality of the championship after what? 4-5 games in the side? Its hardly a crime worth giving him grief for considering its his first full professional season and he is by far the least experienced member of the team.
Same story with Declan last week. They are young and learning we should allow them to play their game and make mistakes. Young players aren't gonna thrive if they aren't allowed to make mistake its part of growing and learning as player. Its not like he is seasoned player that has done this over and over. Smh.

I am making out he's experienced? No that's just you making an assumption.

The game ended 1-0 which was I think could have been avoided if he try to close the man down or win the ball. I am criticising him yes because what he shown in a few games in the Prem I thought the boy had the confidence and could do something in this division. There were other players who underperformed but I picked him out because he was meant to be our star for this season. Yes he will learn but what happened last night was basic football stuff something you learn in U11 football which is close down and put pressure on the person on the ball. It was clear as day we had too many players up there and they was looking to counter.

You are comparing him to players 10 years or more his senior. If i didn't know better i would have thought you were talking about a 26 year old who been playing poorly for several seasons. Not a 19 year old that maybe hasn't been as good as expected in 4-5 games.

Plenty of players have made mistakes that led directly to a goal this season thats why we are in the mess we are in, Whitts lost the ball at Blackburn, Ralls lost the ball last weekend it led to a goal, Morrison did not close down on several occasions in that game and he is a million pound defender that certainly should be above what you call U11 defending.
