Why Wales don't get very big home crowds

Tue Sep 16, 2014 10:55 am

The FAW just released the tickets for Bosnia and Cyprus to members, at £20 a ticket for adults

Robbery if you ask me, £10 would be a much better price and would attract thousands more fans probably meaning making more money anyway. Just when it looks like we may have some big crowds turning up as well.

U16 and senior tickets on the other hand are £5 which is ideal, just don't see why there should be such a big gap between adults and children. And why no U21 or student prices?

Aren't England charging £20 for tickets at their next game? Insane that Wales are charging the same.

The reason people don't go is because they don't want to, trust me if Wales are occupying a qualification spot they'll all come out the woodwork. We'll probably end up playing a game or two at the Millenium! £20 is not an unfair price by today's standard at all, I took my young brother (u16) to the Norwich game Saturday and I was charged the walk up price of £18 which I thought was pretty expensive taking in to account that they need to start pushing the youth of today to games. I'm sure I've been told adult prices are around £28 as well - scandalous considering how much of a chore it is to go down the CCS lately. Most of you will disagree with me but I get more enjoyment out of watching Wales, used to be the complete opposite but the last few years have been unenjoyable.

I actually stopped going to the Wales games because the FAW seem paranoid to pick a Welsh manager regardless of their qualities.

In an ideal world, to have a Welsh manager is great but I would prefer a manager from ANYWHERE in the world providing they are a quality manager who is building and taking the team forward. Other countries do not have a problem about picking quality over a home grown manager.

Tournament tickets to cover the 5 games cost £75 and £18.75 for concessions...that is the cheapest in Western Europe...and you get to see Gareth Bale ,Ramsey and a better Welsh team we have had for many years...no excuses...people go because they want to, the price is cheap enough to encourage fans if they really wanted to go

Agree with your last statement, I love watching Wales and find it a more enjoyable day than watching City most of the time. That's why I only do away games now.

I'll definitely be there for the Bosnia game but I know that lots of people will be turned away by the high cost

I agree that it's great value, but it's still a lot of money. I've planned in going to all of the home games apart from Cyprus so I'd only save £5 anyway, rather just spend £20 each time than £75 come straight out of my account. If I was working full time it would be a different story but working part time with minimum wage is quite difficult

£20 doesn't sound too bad to me.

I will never watch them while they got Coleman in charge

The cost of tickets, the fact the manager is a Jack, and the red shirt ? !!, are just excuses.

The real reason is apathy.

They will forget the cost and the manager next autumn when we have to beat Belgium to qualify, and be begging for tickets.

Do you really think we will get that close..? Not a chance in hell

its not the money, its the quality of football and management. whether its £10 or £20, thats quite cheap, the deciding factor for me would be how the team is playing and are we likely to give them a game?

under toshack, it could have been £5 each and there still would have been empty grounds.

if they charged £10, they would have to get double the people through the door than the attendance they'd get at £20. i strongly doubt that would happen.

You can't get to watch Newport County for less than £15, whilst Cardiff City charge anywhere between £20-£35 for standard tickets. Wales tickets compare very well.

Can't me many places where you can watch world class players like Bale and Ramsey for £20 (and the quality of football isn't any worse than Cardiff City at the current rate!).

More enjoyable watching Wales than Cardiff City. For first time I now care more about Wales than Cardiff. It is great seeing Bale and Ramsey playing for a side I want to win. Whereas at club level many Cardiff players look as if they don't care (unlike the Welsh players in our national team), so why should I?

Both have useless managers so it is very difficult to get too excited about games.
Looking forward to Bosnia match, and cannot argue at the price.

£30 to watch Macheda and John last week or £20 to watch Bale and Ramsey, no brainer. Price is very cheap for national matches.
But apathy and mainly the premier league are slowly strangling international football in this country.

It's more about the fixtures for me......Weekday KO are a pain in the Butt.

So I'll be watching it on the telly.....and I reckon that's what most people who live outside of S.Wales will choose.

It's not the cost at all £20 quid is good to watch the likes of Bale & Ramsey. I gaurantee you that if we were top of the group we would be selling tickets out left right and centre. Look what happened last time we played England, all other games in smaller stadia except the England game which was in the Mill Stad with 70 off thousand there. It's all about results and performances.

So its not the cost but the quality of the performance ?

I thought it was about supporting your country. A good game is a bonus. You dont know if it will be a good game until you turn up, so if you stay home you have already decided it wont be.

It would be great if we did, but So what if we dont qualify ? Will people only want to watch Wales if we are guaranteed to be successful ? Given our record they will never attend a match...but still have plenty of opinion on why they dont go !

People who dont live near Cardiff or are skint, fair enough - but It is just apathy and excuses on the whole.
