Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that the Cardiff lads are focused and prepared for what we need to do to open our seven game schedule in 21 days against Norwich tomorrow.
Solskjaer 'You can win games by having strikers fresh and you can lose games by not having a settled unit at the back.'
Speaking to the Official Site the manager said he was pleased with the side and he was pleased that he's now truly made it his team, but clearly he knows performances have to improve and we need to get a really good winning run going given our stated aims for the campaign.
'Now we have got the squad working together, there are no ifs or buts anymore, now, we have to gel and improve our performances. If you look at the points tally it's decent, but we've not been as good as I want us to be.'
Ole goes on to say that he is confident that in time we will improve though and we will get better because that's a consequence of time, but he more than appreciates for the team and for the fans, the sooner real signs of that 'coming together' happen, the better.
Ahead of Norwich more specifically, deadline day signing Bruno Ecuele Manga is available for selection and is in the gaffer's thoughts for his debut - but given the international break and the fact he'll have only had a few sessions with us at best in training ahead of the game, Ole admits he may just have him involved in the squad to continue getting used to his new colleagues and the club, rather than having him involved in the playing squad.
With Manga being another option now, and tinkering and rotation still figuring highly in press commentary, the gaffer went on to say that in periods like this where the games come thick and fast on a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday schedule, you need a good group of players to rotate to keep everybody fresh and give them enough rest time to they can stay at their peak, and it's not only the physical side he's mindful of, there is the mental.
'There will be some changes but we need points. That is the main thing, it's not about giving the players minutes now. We must keep them ready to perform when they are asked to do so. That's what it's about as a football player, you're paid to play to the best of your ability when asked. That's the job.'
Ole goes on to say that even with rotation though it's still important to have a strong and settled spine to the core so there is a continuity and despite making regular and numerous changes so far, his hope moving forward is that the spine will be consistent from here on out so the base is right, and then it means he's more free to tinker with the creative and more physically demanding positions to suit opponents.
