28 Bristol Rovers fans face court over Mansfield relegation disorder following the Bristol Rovers v Mansfield game last season
Almost 30 football hooligans arrested for violence on the day Bristol Rovers were relegated from the Football League in May are appearing in court this week – as police appeal to trace another Rovers fan who allegedly threw a punch at a player in Saturday’s game.
The courts in Bristol will this week be packed with Rovers fans charged with disorder linked to incidents at the game at the Memorial Stadium in May, when Rovers lost to Mansfield Town and were relegated from the league for the first time ever.
A total of 29 fans were detained in dawn raids in July after police sifted through CCTV footage inside and outside the ground.

Now there will be four specially convened sessions at Bristol Magistrates Court when 29 people – the Rovers fans plus one Mansfield fan – will face a total of 54 charges. This includes offences of violent disorder, assault, affray, public order offences and going on to the pitch.
Additionally, two of those arrested have been released with conditional cautions for public order offences. These have conditions similar to a football banning order, preventing them from attending regulated football matches.
The police operation continues to identify other troublemakers, who are believed to have been involved in the disorder. Thirteen Rovers fans appeared at the special court yesterday (WED), a single Mansfield Town fan will appear today, while 14 Rovers fans will appear in the dock tomorrow (FRI), and another one next Wednesday.
