On the day he was named Cardiff City captain, David Marshall has revealed how he reluctantly swapped shirts with Bayern Munich's star keeper while on international duty in Dortmund.
David Marshall was devastated after his Scotland team missed out on what could have been a famous draw against World Champions Germany.
The Cardiff City keeper had kept his nation in the game at Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Stadium with a string of exceptional saves and when Ikechi Anya equalised on 66 minutes, he looked set to be part of a historic result.
But four minutes later Marshall looked on in horror as Thomas Muller capitalised on a defensive error, after a Marshall save forced a corner, and scored his second of the game to break Scottish hearts.
Today, the keeper, who Cardiff City have kept at the club despite significant interest in the summer transfer window , spoke about the superstar German number one, Manuel Neuer, left his shirt in the Scotland dressing room for him - and how he reluctantly swapped.
Marshall, who was today named captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, said: "I swapped shirts with Neuer.
"It’s not something I like doing but he sent his in after the game.
"It was a good experience for me to play against him."
