viewtopic.php?f=2&t=147027Any visitor to the Cardiff City Stadium cannot fail to notice it, an enormous image of Bluebirds’ electric wideman Craig Noone dominating the sky-line.
The giant picture is literally a big deal for a self-confessed ‘small, skinny bloke’ and makes a big impact on all who see it. Now ‘Nooney’ himself is ready to make an impact of his own where it matters most, on the pitch for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
To say these have been frustrating times for the 26-year-old would be something of an understatement. Back in March, the avid Liverpool fan was taking on the Reds’ arch-rivals Everton with the Bluebirds and living the Premier League dream when a twinge in his groin stopped him in his tracks. It was an injury which was effectively to end his season and, although he could have returned near the end of his side’s ultimately disappointing campaign, it was decided he needed the full summer to rest and recover.
This season, although the Bluebirds were back in the Championship, Noone was straining at the leash to get back to doing what he does best – ensuring opposition defenders are given nightmares.
A first outing in pre-season, away at Carmarthen Town, seemed the perfect way to ease him back into action. Instead, it was to turn into a nightmare as he was withdrawn as a precaution after just 23 minutes and it was then discovered the groin injury was back.
Foregoing surgery, Noone embarked on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment, during which blood was removed from his arm then spun until it contained a high concentration of healing platelets before being injected back into the problem area. It seems to have done the trick.
It has been a hard road to recovery, but Noone is hoping finally that his woes are finally behind him. He played the first-half of the Bluebirds Development side’s win at Birmingham this week and his aim now is to feature as Norwich arrive in the Welsh capital tomorrow for the first big Championship clash after the international break.
“It has been totally frustrating for me,” said Noone.
“I could have come back at the end of last season, but it was decided I shouldn’t. Then what happened in pre-season was just a freak really, but it was a real blow.
“It’s killed me watching the lads out there and not being able to play my part. I’ve been travelling away to watch with them, I felt like I wanted to be at the games with the lads, but I’m not good at just sitting there. I’m feeling good now, though, I’m buzzing, I’m feeling fit and ready to go.”
The news Noone is ready for action again will be a massive boost to Cardiff supporters and also to manager Solskjaer, who recently likened the return of the wideman to signing a ‘new £8m player’.
The Norwegian has certainly been given backing by club owner Vincent Tan, with £5m lavished ahead of the transfer window closing on big centre-half Bruno Manga from French outfit Lorient. The Gabon international looks likely to make his Bluebirds debut against the Canaries alongside fellow new boy Sean Morrison in the heart of the Cardiff defence.
He may have been sat in the stands frustrated so far this campaign, but Noone has been impressed by the start his teammates have made, Acknowledging there can still be an improvement, he admits there can only be one ambition for the capital club this campaign – to bounce straight back into the Premier League.
“I know from my point of view that I had a taste of what it is like to play in the Premier League, to play against the very best,” he said.
“I want that again and I’m sure the other lads feel the same way.
“There have been a few changes over the summer, with players going out and others arriving, and I think we are still gelling as a side. It does take time, but the team spirit we’ve always had is still there. The new lads have come in and fitted in straight away.
“Saying that, I think we’ve had a pretty good start. So far we’ve looked organised and hard to beat and there is still more to come from us.”RING TO GO
