Mate, that's almost like asking what car should I buy? Well not quite I know but it all really depends on what you want it for {besides phone calls

} & how much you want to pay!!

If you like the the smaller phone with the top specs then you may want to have a look at the Sony Z3 compact.
Imo the new Moto x will be the phone to beat in the near future with all its voice and gesture features.
The new nexus should be out in Oct /Nov which should be cheaper than the top flagships with all the top specs and s/ware
If you like the design of the iPhone then you may want to take a look at the HTC m8.
All the top Android phones like the S5,M8,LG3 and Sony Z3 have small flaws but all are cheaper and have higher specs than the iPhone.

I'd probably wait just a bit longer - some new great phones are about to be released. [also generally means a price deduction in the older models - still generally great phones]

I buy the new iphone each year. I sell the outgoing modell and only lose 130-150£. I've had one Samsung S2, I lost 250£ on that phone, and on top of it, it felt really plastic compared to iphone 4s i had later that year

Wait for the iphone 6

Get the new Moto G2 around £140 the best value phone around, then a sim only contract to match your needs, and save yourself some cash.

This is a good idea. New phone, top spec & a sim only from EE is £13.99 per month.
I thought the new Moto phone was the X though? Are they bringing out a new version of the G as well?

Depends what you want a phone for though doesn't it?
The OP said just phone & texting so no point getting high end & paying a huge premium when you don't need all the features like fingerprint recognition, NFC technology & all that stuff.
