I'm a taxi driver in the rhondda and I now know that within the last year they have changed the process. Firstly if you contact your council they will tell you the exact requirements. In r.c.t. now you have to do a college course which costs around£250 then apply with your council who will do a criminal check and total cost with them is £80. Plus you have to have a medical which you have to pay for costs depends on doctor. Once you become a taxi driver you have to renew your badge every 2 years at £200 a shot. Hope this helps

Search Cabs64 on Facebook or Google, they are Penarth taxi firm who are looking for drivers. They will help you on who to contact and in some cases provide a car for you to use.

Go straight to your local council offices and ask to speak to the licensing department for taxi drivers then they will tell you everything. Different councils work differently but it's not cheap however you can make some easy money once you are on the road

My advice would be to stay well away. Far too many drivers and cars out there. I sell taxi insurance and it's an expensive game.

Is there an equivalent of "the knowledge" that you need to know when you become a taxi driver?

Or nowadays do you just need to know how to work a satnav?

Deffo need to do a knowledge test and in some councils especially cardiff you also need to do a cpc test. You are looking about a grand before you start

I've been doing it for 10 years and its getting more and more difficult each year.. just too many taxis on the road.. especially in Cardiff.

I Cardiff.........don't speak very good English.....never have change.........know how to get into heavy traffic...........know the route with the most traffic lights.........!!!!!!!!!!
