' Welsh Independence - Poll '

With the Scottish independence vote just around the corner, if Wales was in a similar position would you vote Yes for independence or no to stay a part of the UK.

A Big NO from me.

No from me too. Being a part of the UK has never once hindered my love of Wales but it has also given me the chance to identify with something bigger. Its not perfect but what country is??
I do get amazed when I see the Scots on TV getting carried away with this promise of a "fairer society" which from what I see is a major factor for many to vote yes .... well how come no other independent country has completely and consistently achieved this goal?? I have been to many countries (a benefit of the good standard of living the UK has afforded me) and seen some abject poverty! I have seen children living in rubbish dumps in the Philippines for example ... We dont see much of that here. As a nation I feel we get so swept along with negative hysteria (press???!) and miss the good we have achieved.

The real issue is the unbalanced nature of the UK. The south east of England is one of the richest areas in Europe but we in Wales are on par with Romania as one of the poorer areas of Europe. That's why we've been receiving Objective 1 money in Wales for years. (money that should be match funded by Westminster but isn't).Scotland are now much better off than us and would become the 7th richest nation in the world on independence, they are now 17th.

Wales playing Andorra tonight, an independent state with the population of Llanelli and they're doing ok.

Andorra has over 10 million tourists per year and is a tax haven. Same can not be said of us.

That's because we've never been given the chance!
There's alway a different way of doing things it doesn't have to be London's way!

We can change that. Cos we would be allowed to do what we wanted for the first time in fifteen hundred years.

It's crazy the way some people just dismiss our capability to look after ourselves. It's like a child who has been forced to stay in his bedroom all his life and has been called an idiot, a freak, that he will never be able to do anything for himself, until one day he finds hes an adult and actually believes he can't fend for himself.

Welsh people need some serious f*cking counselling

Re: ' Welsh Independence - Poll '

Of course we could "look after ourselves" but the drop in financial/linving standards will be more than a little dramatic and it would be sustained for a very long time ... while the English over the channel would continue unchanged and maybe even prosper. Its not about would be "survive" its about what is best for us and sorry but I just feel Wales is stronger as a part of a United Kingdom than going it alone on the promise of some wooly ideological promises which seems to be whats going on in Scotland as far a I can see

absolutely no chance, unless they find we sit on the worlds biggest diamond mine we go bust in a year

Would not like to be separated from England, for all sorts of reasons.

Couldn't care less about Scotland and Northern Ireland, though.

It would take us ten years to turn defecit into profit that's for sure. We need to build up the private sector, reduce the public sector and re-train the workforce (getting the lazy layabouts back to work). Nonetheless it's a good debate to have. One things for certain is that everything changes for everyone if scotland goes. The settlement between the remaining countries will mean federalisation of the remaining countries, but, perhaps the most significant factor here is what do England do next.... Maybe they'd start their own process for independance, which would mean a welsh state through the back door ??

.....NO-ONE KNOWS ..... :old:

You would welcome opencast would you ? Have you ever lived near a opencast mine by any chance ?

Get a good software industry going. Start mining our coal again. Tourism pah we can do that with knobs on despite our weather. Legalise weed is a good idea too. Standard of living will not drop except for the rich. The welsh are largely a socialist nation and an independent wales would be a fairer society. Sadly I don't think we have the guts and will continue to be London's whipping boy.

Can we annex Monmouth?

Re: ' Welsh Independence - Poll '

Wed Sep 10, 2014 9:08 pm

Even if we had a vote and Plaid won independence we still wouldn't be independent as they would keep us in the EU and Brussels would still be in charge. However, as a smaller nation we would not be able to negotiate the sort of rebates Maggie Thatcher got from the EU and we would be worse off, as we are still a rich country per capita compared with some of the Eastern European Member States. They are either a bunch of hypocrites or after more jobs for career politicians.

For me it's yes, we're part of Britain because English kings came and slaughtered people and pillaged ect. If thr French say invaded England tomorrow and called it th French empire, I would not consider myself French just as I consider myself welsh not British

It's a nice romantic notion for us to be independent but without help from rest of UK Wales would fall apart sadly
