' Championship: Former Blackpool striker Michael Chopra hits out at club '

Former Blackpool striker Michael Chopra has launched an attack on the conditions he had to work under at the club last season.

Michael Chopra: Former Blackpool striker has hit out at club

Striker Michael Chopra has hit out at former club Blackpool, claiming players were forced to wash their own kit and clean their boots.

Chopra spent the end of last season with the Seasiders, playing 18 times without scoring, and was shocked by the treatment he claims the players were forced to endure at Bloomfield Road.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: "Things that were going on there were unbelievable. I could see that happening last year, you look at kit men and things like that.

"We only had a kit man on matchdays - I don't mind cleaning my own boots because I have done that when I was a little boy. But you have to go home and wash your own kit and bring it to training, you have to take your boots to games and you didn't really get food after games and things like that.

"They can't go from where they were in the Premier League to where they are now. It looks like they have only played a few games and are heading for League One.

"It's disappointing because the fans are brilliant, they turn up in their thousands every week, and they want the best for Blackpool Football Club."

The next phase of Chopra's career will see him play for Kerala Blasters in the Indian Premier League, a move which he hopes will kickstart his career following his much-publicised gambling addiction.

"It's going to take me a while to earn that money again and get back to where I was," he said. "My main objective is to play football and the sport that I love and that's why I am going to India.

"People talk about what's gone on in the past but I believe I am a better person and I am looking forward to the future.

"I have got past those demons. Obviously they are there but I am overcoming it and looking forward to the future."

The Newcastle Academy product has scored 114 goals in his career and has featured for a number of clubs including Sunderland, Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Watford and Ipswich.

Poor little diva having to wash his own clothes and bring his OWN boots to a football match, I mean what is this world coming to. I never have to wash my own shirts or shoes for work, I just leave them in the office...if he felt so sorry for their fans maybe he could give the club some of his 'hard earned' money... Oh wait a minute no he gambled it all away. You're right, wasted talent.

Agree with all above.

Personally my first thoughts were with all the death & killing & negative things happening in this world you want to moan about putting a top, shorts & socks in a washing machine & pressing on? You stupid c@nt, get a grip.

We know footballers are pampered divas but to come out on camera and basically confirm it makes you a bit of a prick in my book.

Truth be known he probably got a bullseye for the interview the pathetic man.

Also look what has happened to Bothroyd ever since he got that England cap he went downhill and now he is playing in Thailand it is a bit of a shame that the best strike force for a while has turned out like this but it is their choice at the end of the day.

It does sound pathetic, and Chops has way too much baggage to be a credible commentator on Blackpool FC, but in the middle of all the kit stuff he had some interesting things to say about the way Oyston had pocketed the Premiership money and run down the club.

It doesn't sound good for a Championship club (that was in the Premiership only a few years ago) to have a gym and changing room at their training ground that has holes in the roof and buckets on the floor to collect the rain! He is right to say they are heading straight for League 1.

its the equivalent of not having a kettle at work but telling staff that a flint and steel, a couple of logs, and a pan will be more than sufficient. presumably, anyone pointing that out would be a 'poor little diva'. i.e. its a championship club with £10m odd in parachute payments alone, but is run so tightly that they don't even wash kit.

its a metaphor for the cost cutting at the club, is what chopra is saying.

I dont blame him for having a moan, if you work at a certain level and have been told you will have certain perks then you expect them.

Let's remember we support clubs who have that done for them. :?
