Horrific news in my area

Shocked that this happened at my old school, makes you worry about how safe kids are

Edit: Just seen that there are only minor injuries, massive relief.

From the Mirror:

Dozens of police, dog handlers and a force helicopter are hunting for a 13-year-old boy suspected of stabbing a teenage girl and a male teacher at school.

A 13-year-old girl and a teacher were attacked with a 'long bladed knife' at The Chase Technology College in Malvern, Worcs. at 8.45am today.

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene and the two victims were treated for minor injuries.

Officers launched a huge manhunt for the 13-year-old boy suspect who is believed to be a student in Year 9 at the school.

Police described the youngster, who has not been named, as being white, about 5ft 3ins tall, with short spiky hair and glasses.

He was last seen carrying a dark rucksack and wearing dark grey trousers, a grey hooded jumper and may have a dark scarf covering his face.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers in Malvern are investigating an assault on a teacher and student at The Chase Technology College in Malvern.

"A male teacher and a 13-year-old female student from the school were attacked with a bladed instrument at approximately 8.45am this morning. The man and the girl received minor injuries.

"The boy should not be approached, please call 999 if you see him. Police are concerned about the boy's welfare and would like to find him as soon as possible."

Eyewitnesses reported seeing nine police cars and two dog vans outside the school as officers flooded the scene. The force helicopter was also scrambled to join the search for the young suspect.

The school was initially in lock-down with pupils kept in classrooms but parents were allowed to collect their children later in the morning.

A spokesperson for The Chase Technology College said: "There has been an incident at the school, which has now been dealt with. Everyone is safe, and there is no cause for concern.

"Parents should not be alarmed by the presence of police at the site. This is a precaution and the situation is fully under control."

One parent, whose 14-year-old daughter, attends the school said: "When I heard there had been a suspected stabbing at the school I was horrified.

"You don't expect this sort of thing to happen in Britain, let alone a place like Malvern. It's been a nightmare getting any information from the police or the school.

"I went and collected my daughter straight away when I heard what had happened. She was not in the class where it happened but it's shaken her.

"She's been in tears and says she saw dozens of kids screaming and police everywhere."

The Chase Technology College became an academy in November 2011 and is the largest school in Worcestershire with over 1,600.

It is located in Barnards Green, a suburb of Malvern, adjacent to the sites of large technolgoy company QinetiQ and Dytecna, the Malvern Hills Science Park.

The school was rated as 'requires improvement' on its last Ofsted inspection in February this year - a downgrade on its previous "good" rating.

Agreed. I don't have any children, but if I did then stories like this would make me scared for them.

That's true, but the intent was there. It's terrible that a 13-year old would even think about stabbing someone. When I was that age, my biggest worry was whether my mum bought me MATCH Magazine.
