Is he getting a fair deal this season?

Should he be playing in the first team?

What did you honestly think about him last season?

Do you rate him at Championship level?

I thought he struggled last season, which is understandable when you consider his age, experience and quality of the opposition.

I don't think he can expect to start this season, as Fabio has been good so far. But if Fabio were to pick up an injury or suspension, I think Declan would be able to cover him well in this league.

I would suggest that Declan went out on loan, but then it would leave us short at left-back - unless we had a 24 hour recall option.

He definitely has a bright future though and good to see him called up to the full Wales squad

If he didn't come through the academy and be the only Welsh player in the squad, people would have a different opinion about him. Very unimpressed with his ability to cross the ball. Get training with Whitts on how to strike a decent cross Declan! I suppose he was learning in a very tough environment last season, alot of pressure.

Hope he turns out to be quality of course, I want to see Welsh players in the team

Having watched whitts train on many occasions I'd keep all our youngsters well away from him

Looked very weak last season and not to good defending. Going forward he looked very good tho.
Think he needs a loan to get regular game time but as someone said above, we would need a recall clause as hea good cover

He's fine back up, decent player. Don't think he will be better than Adam Matthews (hopefully John won't common career suicide like he did though). Last season was a bit unfair on him, his age being asked to perform at that level is difficult. If Andrew Taylor wasn't a complete shithouse he would have had a better shake at development but there you are.

He's def not better than Fabio has been.

He's aimless going forward, and quite weak defensively. I'm no scout, but I hope there's more potential to him than I can see.

Frankly I'm glad the CB situation is as good as it is, because I'd rather see Connolly filling in after a Fabio injury on LB than John starting against a good championship team.

Not a defender in my eyes. You could blame his youth or inexperience but he gets himself caught out of position too often.
However that said, I do think he would make a superb left sided midfielder.
He's good going forward, can cross and has a decent shot on him. Would definitely have him on the bench.

agree with this, as there were very worrying aspects to his game last season, e.g. no end product upfield, resulting in costly counter-attacks

However, the boy has a bright future, if he continues to learn and stays focussed

Great call-up to the Wales Squad (not that international football is of much interest to me, TBH)

i think john and fabio are roughly the same ability.

therefore i'd play john ahead of fabio as he's come out of the academy and may be more inclined to show a bit of loyalty to the club when clubs come in.

Needs to be played as a winger. Defensively inept as a LB.

He will get his chances. It´s a long season, and Fabio will need to be rested from time to time or he will have a drop in form. For the quality of the players, DJ is not that far behind, in my opinion.

I really want to see him in a more attacking position. I don't see why he shouldn't be tried there. But I'm not being paid whatever to pick the team.
