Kenny Jackett named Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month

Charlton Athletic striker Igor Vetokele has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for August.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for August.

Jackett's Wolves picked up where they left off in May with four wins from five and just two goals conceded.

Most impressively, they recorded 1-0 victories over Norwich City, Fulham and Cardiff City - the clubs relegated from the Premier League.

Dave Bassett, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: "Wolves have enjoyed an excellent start to life back in the Sky Bet Championship after their promotion last season.

"Nottingham Forest also had an excellent start under Stuart Pearce but I have chosen Kenny as I think Wolves just shaded it when you consider the quality of opposition they defeated in August."

Sky Sports' Football League pundit Don Goodman said: "Jackett's side have made the step up from League 1 to the Championship seamlessly, and taking the big scalps of all the relegated sides in the first month."

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: "The cumulative odds of Wolves to beat all the relegated sides were 14/1. They also saw off well-fancied Blackburn Rovers, so it's not hard to see why Jackett deserves this month's award.

"They were 6/1 to achieve back-to-back promotions before a ball was kicked. Wolves are now 7/2, which makes them a top six Championship outfit."

Charlton Athletic striker Igor Vetokele has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for August.

There were five goals in as many games for the livewire Angola forward who offers Charlton a threat in behind defences.

His skill was exemplified by both a low 20-yarder and a mazy run for his two goals at Brighton & Hove Albion.

I am surprised that Stuart Pearce didn't get it at Forest but saying that Wolves have done very well and Kenny Jackett is a good manager.

Millwall & Charlton have over performed and hence the managers deserve credit.

From what I've seen Forest have played better than Wolves, but the fact that a newly promoted team beat three newly relegated teams is quite spectacular. And with the material Jackett has to disposal considered, I fully understand why they couldn't choose Pearce.
