Joe Lewis: Happy To Be Back Playing
Wed 03 Sep 2014

by Mark Ridgway

Joe Lewis has already made more appearances this season than the previous two combined, and is relieved to be back playing.

The goalkeeper has played every minute of Blackpool’s campaign so far, having found game time hard to come by at Cardiff City.

Lewis is on a season-long loan from the Welsh club, and has slotted back into a number one jersey seamlessly.

“I’ve enjoyed playing the games after I went through two seasons at Cardiff of just playing the odd one, which was frustrating. That’s the life of a goalkeeper sometimes, if the number one is doing well then you’re not going to get a chance,” said Lewis.

“I’m pleased with my performances, I feel confident going into games at the moment. I think I’ve had a steady start, so hopefully I can carry that on.

“However it’s not about me, or any individual, it’s about getting results, and I personally think that a result is not too far away.”

Despite solid performances between the sticks from Lewis, Blackpool are without a point from their opening five games, but now have a free weekend coming up.

The squad are now putting in the hours on the training ground, and Lewis feels the break has arrived at the right time.

“The international break will give us a chance to get a squad settled and get a team settled, and work on one or two things that we’ve not had a chance to.

“We’ve not got a point on the board yet, so it would be lovely to get some points sooner rather than later.”

Meanwhile the stopper confirmed that the spirits remain high in the camp, despite poor form on the pitch.

“It’s surprisingly positive even though we know results haven’t been favourable to us and it’s been a difficult start.

“We’re a new squad, I know we can’t keep using it as an excuse, but we’re together and are showing a lot of signs of becoming a good team.

“We need to get our second half performances that we’ve been having and make them 90 minute performances. I can’t see it being a problem, I think we’ll gel and soon enough get the three points,” he said.

My mate whose a Bfc fan really rates him. Good command of area and a good shot stopper.

Surprised at that, he always looked so lost on crosses. Certainly a decent shot stopper though.

I agree with you but my mate was adamant that Lewis had good command of his box.

He was man of the match. No loan clause that day!
